This position is a High Voltage Electrician in the High Voltage Unit, Electric Shop, Plant Division. The position involves application of high voltage electrical theory, procedures, and safety standards to complete projects that involve testing, repairing, and maintenance of high voltage (600+) electrical power controlling equipment and/or distribution lines.

Independently performs a wide variety of assignments related to inspecting, testing, analyzing, repairing and calibrating primary 13,800/7200 volt transformers, circuit breakers, underground cables, relays, 4160/2400 volt contractors with associated equipment for refrigeration units at the Steam and Chilled Water Generation Plant, secondary low voltage distribution switchgear, network protectors, supervisory circuits, and other associated equipment installed in NIST buildings, distribution systems, and substations.  Ensure  plans, blueprints, materials, and tools are available to perform tasks in a safe manner.

There are no specific lengths or level of experience requirements. The applicant's overall background of experience, education, and training must clearly demonstrate the ability to perform journeyman level high voltage electrician duties, such as inspecting, testing, analyzing, repairing and calibrating primary 13,800/4160 volt transformers, circuit breakers, underground cables, relays, 4160/2400 volt contactors without more than normal supervision.

HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED:

OTHER INFORMATION:

A probationary period may be required.

This position will work four (4) ten (10) hour days: either Monday-Thursday or Tuesday-Friday.

Payment of relocation expenses is NOT authorized.

This position requires, but is not limited to heavy physical exertion such as frequent climbing of ladders or scaffolds, crouching or crawling in restricted areas, and lifting and carrying of heavy objects weighing more than 50 pounds. 

 

The working conditions involve moderate risks and discomforts which requires special safety precautions such as those required when working around moving parts or machinery.
