JOB SUMMARY:

Civilian employees serve a vital role in supporting the Army mission. They provide the skills that are not readily available in the military, but crucial to support military operations. The Army integrates the talents and skills of its military and civilian members to form a Total Army.

About the Position:

This position is located at the Troop Medical Clinic in the Department of Pediatrics at Fort Huachuca, AZ.

Recruitment or relocation bonus may be paid. 

Medical malpractice liability insurance is not required for federal civilian healthcare providers as they are covered by the Federal Tort Claims Act (28 U.S.C. § 1346(b)) while acting within the scope of their employment.

    You will provide direct patient care covering the full range of pediatric care, diagnosing and treating patients with all types of acute and chronic illnesses/diseases, emotional problems, well child examinations, etc. You will examine and evaluate patients referred to the section. You will determine need for x-ray and laboratory tests, interpret results, and administer medication and treatment deemed appropriate. You will recognize the need for and consult with physicians in other medical specialties as necessary. When major complications arise, you will recommend referral to larger hospitals having the full range of facilities available for treatment and care. You will make more frequent checks on those considered critically ill or requiring more than normal attention. You will document all treatments, procedures, medications, etc., utilized in patient treatment in accordance with the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) and hospital standards. You will perform follow-up care, as appropriate to assure adequate and continued patient progress; initiate further diagnostic studies considered necessary, and update evaluation of physical condition of patients.

    You will participate in continuing medical education to update standard care delivered to pediatric patients.

    You will participate in health centers, PI/QI Committees, and training as required.

  • Degree: Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy from a school in the United States or Canada approved by a recognized accrediting body in the year of the applicants graduation. [A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school that provided education and medical knowledge substantially equivalent to accredited schools in the United States may be demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) (or a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country).
  • Graduate Training: Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy degree, a candidate must have had at least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a 1-year internship or the first year of a residency program in an institution accredited for such training.
  • Licensure/Certification: Candidates must have a permanent, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
  • Specialized Experience: Candidates must clearly demonstrate in their resume that they possess 4 years of residency training in the specialty of the position to be filled or equivalent experience and training in the specialty of Pediatrics. This required Pediatric experience/training will include skills such as, but not limited to, a wide range of medical duties specializing in all aspects of infant, child, and adolescent care, such as advanced examination, diagnosis, and treatment to ensure effectiveness of treatment, post discharge. At least one year of this experience must have been at the next lower level, which would involve independent treatment of complex cases requiring advanced skills.
