This position is located at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center, Administration Directorate, Facilities Management Division, Facilities Operations Branch, Glynco, Georgia. The selected individual will serve as a working supervisor providing planning, supervision, and coordination of facilities maintenance, repair, and improvement activities to support law enforcement training programs taking place at the FLETC, Glynco facility.

Applicable relocation expenses will not be paid.

The Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor will serve as a working supervisor providing work direction and assuring work assignments are carried out.  Typical assignments include:

  • Supervising a variety of tasks involved in the upkeep of buildings, grounds and related structures, fixtures, and utilities.
  • Passing on to Work Leaders and other workers instructions received from the Branch Supervisor and starting work (e.g. by assigning the immediate tasks to be performed by individual members of the group led).
  • Working closely with the Design and Construction Branch Chief and members of the staff concerning A&E design that illustrate various operating systems (i.e. Chiller plant and lines, boilers for heat steam and hot water, fire alarm systems and various electronic systems such as firearm target systems and security systems).
  • Receiving request for repairs, maintenance or alterations of facility wide mechanical systems.
  • Assisting the Branch Supervisor in preparing work orders and job estimates.

While there is no minimum amount of training or experience required, the applicant must have had experience, military or civilian, paid or unpaid, of sufficient scope and quality to perform the duties of a Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor, WS-4749-11. The applicant must have experience providing planning, supervision, or coordination of facilities maintenance, repair, and improvement activities.

Physical Demands: The work requires a considerable amount of standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in tiring and/or uncomfortable positions. The Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor may work from ladders and scaffolding. When operating equipment, the Supervisor may be under a great deal of strain from constant reaching, bending, turning, and moving of hands, arms, feet, legs, and by the vibration and jerking of the equipment. The incumbent carries, lifts, and handles parts and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds and may occasionally exceed 50 pounds.

Work Environment: The work is performed inside and outside with exposure to all kinds of weather. The work that may be performed in these areas could involve the following type environments: dirty, wet, dusty, greasy and with inadequate lighting, heat, or ventilation. The employee may be subject to cuts, abrasions, burns, broken bones, electrical shock, infections, bites, exposure to inhalation or harmful fumes, irritation of eyes, skin and respiratory tract, and the hazards of operating power tools and equipment. Discomfort is encountered when wearing protective clothing, gloves, or eye goggles.

Due to the physical effort required for this position, successful completion of a pre-employment medical exam is required.

New supervisors/managers must successfully complete a 1-year probationary period as a condition of employment.
