Every day our Supervisory IT Specialist (Information Security) analyze security requirements and consult and advise on risk and vulnerabilities of IT programs and plans.  This position of SUPERVISORY INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SPECIALIST (INFORMATION SECURITY) starts at a salary of $123,758.00(GS-15 step 1), with promotion potential to $155,500.00 (GS-15 step 10).  Apply for this exciting opportunity to become a member of the Office of Information Technology, Washington, DC within DHS US Citizenship and Immigration Services.

As a Supervisory Information Technology Specialist (Information Security) within the United States Citizenship Immigration Services (USCIS), Office of Information Technology (OIT), located in Washington, DC. Your duties will include:

  • Oversee assignments that may involve supporting the enterprise activities of OIT, providing oversight and accountability activities, assuring confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information and automated processes, ensuring USCIS systems, applications, and data are protected, supporting the enterprise IT infrastructure, managing and overseeing the integration of IT services, and determining goals for resources requirements.
  • Develop and implement IT strategies and plans, and develop IT performance measures; analyze security requirements and consult and advise on risk and vulnerabilities of IT programs and plans.
  • Direct work assignments, exercise responsibility, assuring equity of standards, directing a major IT Security program segment, making decisions, assigning project directors and/or work leaders (both Federal and contractor); identify training needs.
  • Promote team building and improving business practices; resolve grievances; review and approve disciplinary actions.
  • Perform policy making and planning work associated with project management activities for security projects that includes the development of maintenance of continuity of operation plans and procedures.

GS-15: You qualify at the GS-15 level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the GS-14 level in the federal government, which has equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. You must have experience performing the following duties:

  • Defining the scope and level of detail for security plans and policies applicable to the security program.
  • Reviewing proposed new systems, networks and software designs for potential security risks.
  • Resolving integration issues related to the implementation of new systems with the existing infrastructure.


Educational Substitution: There is no educational substitution at this grade level.

Probationary Period: You may be required to serve a probationary period of 1 year.

Supervisory/Managerial Probation Period: You may be required to serve a one (1) year probationary period upon appointment to this position. You may also be required to complete an appropriate supervisory training course within one year of assignment to this position.
