  • Maintains knowledge of precedent setting cases, and merging problems in the microbiology field.
  • Researches problems in-depth, carries out studies and consults with other professionals.
  • Receive for resolution previously unresolved problems with scientific analysis.
  • Develops approaches and makes final decisions that become Office policy and procedure.
  • Ensures that the Office strategic plan and mission are communicated to the team and integrated into work.
  • Sets and adjusts priorities and prepares schedules for work completion.
  • Gives advice and instruction to team members, finding ways to improve work quality.
  • Serves as a liaison with other Agencies, providing consultation, opinions and endorsements.
  • Meets with representatives of regulated firms regarding problems in the discipline.
  • Develops propositions for study and speaks for the Office on scientific disciplines.
  • Participates in meetings related to products under review.
  • Speaks for the Office and Center, and represents the discipline in the professional academic and regulated industries.

Degree:  Microbiology, biology, chemistry, or basic medical science that included at least 20 semester hours in microbiology and other subjects relate to the study of microorganisms, and 20 semester hours in physical and mathematical sciences combining course work in organic chemistry or biochemistry, physics, and college algebra or their equivalent.

Combination of education and experience:  courses equivalent to a major in microbiology, biology, chemistry, or basic medical science that included courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. 

 

One year of specialized experience at the next lower grade level.
