This vacancy is for an Administrative Specialist position in the Administrative Office for the Associate Director for Economic Programs and the Associate Director for Research and Methodology located at the U.S. Census Bureau Headquarters in Suitland, Maryland.

The individual selected for this position will be:

  • Responsible for preparing/developing budget forecasts and formal budget estimates.
  • Responsible for ensuring the actual costs remain within budget limits by constant monitoring of expenditures.
  • Responsible for administrative matters concerning personnel to include: establishment of positions, awards, and other personnel matters and advise supervisors.
  • Responsible for reviewing travel forms; and interpret travel regulations as they pertain to the Directorates.
  • Reviewing actions for compliance and completeness before submitting to supervisors for approval.

You must have the education or experience listed below or a combination of both.

GS-07 Experience: You must have one year (52 weeks) of specialized work experience equivalent to at least the GS-5 grade level in the Federal government service or at least one year of equivalent professional work experience. Examples of experience include: analyzing problems to identify significant factors, gather pertinent data, and recognize solutions; planning and organizing work; and performing developmental assignments under the close guidance of a higher level officer that provide exposure to a wide variety of administrative and budget processes, procedures, methods and practices.


GS-07 EDUCATION: You have a bachelor's degree plus at least one of the following superior academic achievement provisions:

(1) membership in a national honor society;

(2) graduating in the upper 1/3 of your class;

(3) earning an undergraduate grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.95 (on a 4.0 scale) in the final 2 undergraduate years completed;

(4) earning a cumulative undergraduate GPA of at least 2.95;

(5) earning an undergraduate GPA of at least 3.45 in your major field of study during the final 2 undergraduate years completed; or

(6) earning a cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.45 in your major field of study.


One full year (18 semester hours or 27 quarter hours) of graduate level study, or possess a master's or higher degree, e.g., LL.B, J.D., LL.M., Ph.D.


You have less than the full amount of graduate education described in the "GS-7 Education" section and less than the amount of experience described in the "GS-7 Experience" section, but you have a combination of the type of graduate education described in "GS-7 Education" section  and the type of experience described in "GS-7 Experience" section totaling 100%.


Foreign Education: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show that the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
