The Wichita VA Medical Center is a primary and secondary care facility.  It is a teaching hospital, providing a full range of patient care services, with state-of-the-art technology.  Comprehensive health care is provided through primary care, secondary care, and long-term care in areas of medicine, surgery, psychiatry, cardiology, physical medicine and rehabilitation, neurology, hematology and oncology, dentistry, visual impairment, spinal cord dysfunction, prosthetic laboratory, a Community Living Center, and extended care services.  Wichita is the largest city in Kansas with a metropolitan population of 500,000.  The Medical Center serves Veterans living in 52 counties of the state.


Permanent Change of Station costs, a recruitment/relocation incentive of up to 25%, and/or Appraised Value Offer (formerly Guaranteed Home Buyout) may be authorized.

This position is responsible to the VISN 15 Network Director.  The responsibilities include, but not limited to:


This position has full delegated line authority and responsibility for executive level management of the VA Medical Center, Wichita, KS.  Overall responsibility for planning, organizing, coordinating, controlling, reviewing, evaluating, and improving medical, administrative, and support operations of the medical facility.       
Managerial duties and responsibilities involve making final decisions which have a direct and substantial impact on the health care organization and programs.  Such decisions affect the nature, scope and quality of patient care programs and activities.       
Determines program goals and objectives and develops short-range and long-range plans for achieving strategic direction consistent with VISN 15, VHA, and VA Strategic, Performance and Operating goals.         
Develops and maintains cooperative relationships with other Federal government agencies, local and state governments, community organizations, and other health care providers in the VAMC's catchment area.  Fosters positive relations with the media, Congressional staff, service organizations, and  volunteer groups.
