The incumbent's works with the maintenance team under the immediate supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor at Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. Incumbent performs various duties which include: lake-shore cleanup and solid waste control. Cleans, services and maintains restrooms, sinks, and toilets in a clean and sanitary condition at Lees Ferry and other locations throughout the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area.Providing maintenance functions for the operation of replaces deck cleats, planking, cables, hoses and clamps and assists with the moving of these docks. Plumbing assists journeyman with maintenance of utility system. Carpentry and painting, will assist with construct, alter, modify and/or repair a wide range of features in buildings, quarters, and other facilities. Janitorial, will clean visitor use building(s), offices and comfort stations. Incumbent will assist with maintaining trails, walkways, and landscaping. Operates boat on winding 15-mile stretch of the Colorado River between Lees Ferry and Glen Canyon Dam.  

Physical Demands: Must be able to lift, push, pull and carry a variety of tools and equipment.

  • Standing for long periods of time, walking, bending, kneeling, stretching, climbing, crawling, pushing, pulling, and lifting variety of tools and equipment at time up to 75 pounds is required.
  • Will often perform activities from ladders, platforms, scaffolding and work in confined spaces.

Work Environment: Work is performed mainly outdoors exposure to extreme of temperature, rain, wind, and direct sunlight. Works in and around the lake, sewage lagoons and water clarifiers, and must be able to swim or must wear personal flotation devices. Some work is performed in confined spaces such as manholes and may be exposed to sewer gases, dangerous chemicals, and excess temperatures. Works with and around power driven tools and hand tools. Operates motor vehicles and small watercraft as a regular part of duties.

  • May be required to ride in a light aircraft to other districts to perform duties.

Area Information: Primary duty location is Lees Ferry; however, this announcement may cover several locations within the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area.

 

Page, Arizona is located on the Arizona-Utah border, 135 miles north of Flagstaff, Arizona, the nearest larger community. Wahweap Sub-District is located seven miles from Page. Page looks out on beautiful Lake Powell which offers boating, associated water sports recreation and fishing. The surrounding land of the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area offers beautiful red rock country for hiking and backcountry recreational activity. Page is centrally located to many other National Parks, such as the Grand Canyon, Zion, Arches and Canyonlands to name a few. Page offers normal community amenities such as shopping, medical and dental facilities, schools K-12 and college courses available through local Coconino Community College. The area enjoys typical high desert climate with temperatures ranging from 100 in summer to mid-teens in winter with low humidity and sunshine most days of the year. Lees Ferry is 42 miles (61 km) from Page via Hwy 89 south and Hwy 89A west. It is 85 miles (125 km) from the North Rim of the Grand Canyon via Hwy 89A and Hwy 67. The Lees Ferry Junction and Park Entrance is just west of Navajo Bridge Interpretive Center. A paved road leads 5 miles (8 km) to the Ferry area. Services available at Lees Ferry include a National Park Service campground, ranger station, dump station and public launch ramp. There is a gas station, store, post office, motel and restaurant at Marble Canyon, next to the park entrance. More services are found west on Hwy 89A.

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement, Monday, April 08, 2013.  Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private or public sectors.  

Applicants must be physically fit and, as required in Office of Personnel Management Qualifications Handbook X-118C, must possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the elements listed in Section 25 of the Online Occupational Questionnaire to perform the duties of the position at the level for which they are applying. A specific length of time and experience is not required; however you must be able to demonstrate the rough experience shown in your written application, that you possess sufficient knowledge, skill and ability to perform the duties of the position without more than normal supervision.


 

Requirements

1.National Park Service (NPS) uniformed position. Employee will be required to wear a uniform and comply with NPS uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided to defray the cost of the uniform.

2.  Applicants must possess a valid state driver's license. This position requires that you operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties. A valid State driver's license is required. As a condition of employment, you will be required to submit a completed GSA Form 3607, Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that discloses all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you. If you are tentatively selected for employment in this position, you will be required to complete GSA Form 3607 and submit the above State issued documents. Your employment, after your tentative selection, will be contingent upon receipt of these documents in a timely manner and that those documents establish, to the satisfaction of the selecting official, that you possess a valid driver's license.

HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED:

Your rating will be based on both your responses to the Job Assessment Questionnaire and the information stated in your resume. The assessment questions relate to the following knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs)/competencies that are required to perform the work of this position. Only education and experience acquired by the closing filing deadline will be considered.

You must include months, years and hours per week worked to receive credit for your work experience. One year of specialized experience is equivalent to 12 months at 40 hours per week. Part-time hours are prorated. You will not receive any credit for experience that does not indicate exact hours per week or is listed as "varies".

Category rating procedures will be used to rate and rank candidates. Candidates will be ranked into 3 categories:
Category Group I (Best Qualified) - applicants possessing experience that substantially exceeds the minimum qualifications of the position including all selective factors, and who are highly proficient in all requirements of the job and can perform effectively in the position.  
Category Group II (Well Qualified) - applicants possessing experience that exceeds the minimum qualifications of the position including all selective factors, and who are proficient in most of the requirements of the job.
Category Group III (Qualified) - applicants possessing experience that meets the minimum qualifications of the position including all selective factors, and who are proficient in some, but not all of the requirements of the job.

VETERANS PREFERENCE: Veterans Preference applies to category rating. Within each quality category, veteran's preference eligibles are listed first, including CP, CPS, XP, and TP. In addition, veterans who have a 10% or more service-connected compensable disability (CP or CPS) are placed at the top of the highest quality category. Applicants referred are listed on the selection certificate alphabetically (veteran's preference eligibles before non-veterans) without scores.
