The Division of Integrative Organismal Systems (IOS) supports research aimed at an integrative understanding of organisms. The goal is to predict why organisms are structured the way they are, and function as they do. Projects that innovatively apply systems biology approaches, i.e. approaches that combine experimentation computation, and modeling, and which lead to new conceptual and theoretical insights and predictions about integrated Organismal properties that may be experimentally verified, are particularly encouraged. The Science Advisor will advise and cooperate with the Division Director, Executive Officer, and Program Directors in division management as well as the development of IOS long range plans. The Science Advisor will serve as part of the IOS "Front Office" staff, which includes the Division Director, Executive Officer, Program Support Manager, Operations Specialists, and Management Analyst. The advisory contributions at this level are with respect to all phases of the broad scientific research areas for IOS.
Responsibilities will include assisting with processing of eJacket declinations and return without review actions, assisting in recruiting of program directors and other scientific staff, development of television and video programming, coordination of special projects, workshops and initiatives within the Division to include innovation activities, organization of seminars relevant to IOS science, coordination of analysis of Division program data and trends, assistance in program planning, and representation of the Division's programs and interests to officials in the government, academic and industrial sectors, and internationally as needed.

Applicants must have earned a Ph.D. or equivalent experience in a field of animal research supported by the Division of Integrative Organismal Systems. In addition, applicants must have six or more years of successful research, research administration, and/or managerial experience related to the position being filled. Applicants must have the ability to participate in the leadership of a research organization, a record of accomplishments in his or her field, and an ability to recognize current and emerging scientific trends and to recommend new directions.
