JOB SUMMARY:

Civilian employees serve a vital role in supporting the Army mission.  They provide the skills that are not readily available in the military, but crucial to support military operations.  The Army integrates the talents and skills of its military and civilian members to form a Total Army.

About the Position: US ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS, LITTLE ROCK DISTRICT, HEBER SPRINGS, AR, OPERATIONS DIVISION

 

Position(s) will be filled under the Department of the Army Pathways Intern Program.

 

The Department of the Army Pathways Internship Program is designed to provide students enrolled in a wide variety of educational institutions, from high school to graduate level, on a full or half-time basis with opportunities to work in the Department of Army and explore Federal careers while still in school and while getting paid for the work performed. Applicants who do not meet the definition of "student", will not be considered. At the successful conclusion of this program, you may be eligible for non-competitive conversion to a Federal career or career-conditional position.  Interns may work full-time or part-time schedules.  The Pathways Internship Program replaces Student Temporary Employment Program (STEP) and the Student Career Experience Program (SCEP).  More information on the Pathways Programs for students and recent graduates can be found at:

NOTE:

This is a temporary appointment under the Little Rock District Summer Hire Program and is intended to last only through the summer, not to exceed 30 September 2013.

This appointment may be extended in one-year increments without further competition.

Payment of moving expenses will NOT be authorized, subject to the provisions of the Joint Travel Regulations.

To be eligible for conversion to the competitive service after completion of the program, an intern must:

  • Be a U.S. Citizen
  • Complete their degree or certificate requirements
  • Complete a minimum of 640 hours of work experience under the Internship Program
  • Meet the OPM qualification standards for the position to which the Intern may be converted
  • Maintain acceptable performance under the Agency's approved performance management system
  • Receive favorable recommendation for conversion from supervisor

  •  Meet agency-specific requirements as specified in the Participant's Agreement

  • Perform their job successfully as documented through performance evaluations and/or completion of an Individual Development Plan (IDP).

The US Army is not obligated to make an offer of employment, nor is the student obligated to accept an offer of employment.

These trainee positions are meant to provide experience and specialized training in the field of work related to the student's major field of study.  Students will be involved with productive, hands-on job assignments as a Park Ranger.  Duties performed consist of a wide variety of routine, repetitive tasks that require the application of simple work procedures within any of the functional areas of Interpretation, Visitor Protection & Services or Resource Management. Applies the appropriate guidelines in the accomplishment of familiar tasks involving a variety of visitor oriented tasks to encourage the proper use and enjoyment of the park facilities or projects.  Furnishes information to visiting public concerning rules and regulations pertaining to facilities usage such as camping, fishing, boating, hunting, etc. Such developmental assignments can include conducting scheduled and special patrols of land and water areas, checking usage and conditions of public use areas, commercial docks, group camps, and other recreation areas, including safety, fire, sanitation, and maintenance. Investigates and reports to supervisor any trespasses or other violations; describes extent of problems and reports names of witnesses and/or trespassers when possible.
