As a Research Biologist in the Developmental/Reproductive Toxicology and Immunotoxicology Branch of the Division of Toxicology, Office of Applied Research and Safety Assessment, Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition, you will serve as the Research Staff Scientist who will participate in research activities supporting the implementation of Tox21 Initiatives.

  • Plans and conducts complex studies related to identification of biomarkers and mechanisms of toxicity using in vivo animal models and alternative animal model systems.
  • Conducts basic and applied research in development and reproductive toxicology using alternatives to classical whole-animal test systems.
  • Participates in project teams to identify and evaluate alternative animal model systems for use in chemical toxicity screening.
  • Establishes sensitive and accurate qualitative and quantitative new assays and biomarker development and alternative model systems in the area of chemical toxicity screening.

Applicants must demonstrate that they meet the basic requirements (A or B)  and specialized requirements (A or B) as noted below:

 

Basic Education Requirement:

 

A. Possess a four year degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. (you must submit transcript at time of application submission)

 

OR

 

B. Have a combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. (you must submit transcript at time of application submission)

 

Specialized Experience Requirement for the GS-12:

 

A. Have one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-11 in the Federal service that includes conducting studies on in vitro evaluation of toxicity in Food and Drug regulated products; participating in team projects to address toxicity issues; and representing finds through presentations and in reports.

 

OR

 

 B. Possess a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree (you must submit transcript at time of application submission.
