This position is located in the Department of Health and Human Service, Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Office of Regulatory Affairs (ORA), Chicago Regional Office located in Chicago, Illinois.

 

The FDA's Office of Regulatory Affairs is the lead office for all FDA Field activites as well as providing FDA leadership on imports, inspections, and enforcement policy. ORA supports FDA Product Centers by inspecting regulated products and manufacturers, conducting sample analysis on regulated products, and reviewing imported products offered for entry into the United States. ORA also develops FDA-wide policy on compliance and enforcement.

Performs office automation work at or above the established minimum proficiency level. Develops methods for automating reports. Retrieves and compiles data using various software programs, word processing programs and databases and tracking systems. Arranges meetings as requested utilizing an automated calendar system. Maintains an automated control system for projects, documents, and material received in the office. Utilizes electronic mail to maintain communications with various staffers to which employee is responsible. Prepares training forms and other forms necessary for work of the office using the LAN forms package. Performs file searches, composes and writes routine correspondence. Servces as a timekeeper. May perform general administrative/clerical duties in support of the office. Performs other duties as assigned.

Basic Requirement: Typing Proficiency Requirement

In addition to possessing the specialized experience below, you must also be able to type 40 words per minute with three or fewer errors based on a 5 minute sample. You will be asked to self-certify that you meet this requirement on the assessment questionnaire.

 

Qualifications GS-5 

I have one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service, receiving and routing materials such as controlled or routine correspondence, reports, memoranda, and other forms of written communication; entering and retrieving data using a variety of personal computer software; scheduling and coordinating meetings; receiving calls and visitors; and responding to general inquiries orally and in writing; etc. OR,

I have successfully completed four years of education above high school level. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. 

OR,
I have a combination of experience as described in "A" above and education as described in "B" above. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience.

Qualifications GS-6  

I have one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service, receiving and routing materials such as controlled or routine correspondence, reports, memoranda, and other forms of written communication; scheduling and coordinating meetings utilizing an automated calendar system; receiving calls and visitors; responding to general inquiries orally and in writing; retrieving and compiling data using various software programs, word processing programs and databases and tracking systems; etc.

QUALIFICATIONS GS-07

 I have one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service, receiving and routing materials such as controlled or routine correspondence, reports, memoranda, and other forms of written communication; scheduling and coordinating meetings utilizing an automated calendar system; receiving calls and visitors; responding to general inquiries orally and in writing; developing, compiling, interpreting, monitoring and evaluating information; retrieving and compiling data using various software programs, word processing programs and databases and tracking systems; etc.

OR,

I have at least one full year (18 semester hours or equivalent) of graduate education in a field that is directly related to the work of the position.

 OR,
I have a combination of experience as described in "A" above and education as described in "B" above.

 

Time in Grade Requirements:

Applicant must have one year at the GS-04 grade level to meet eligiblity for the GS-05 grade level.

Applicant must have one year at the GS-05 grade level to meet eligiblity for the GS-06 grade level.

Applicant must have one year at the GS-06 grade level to meet eligiblity for the GS-07 grade level.

 

 

Documenting experience:  In accordance with Office of Personnel Management policy, federal employees are assumed to have gained experience by performing duties and responsibilities appropriate for their official series and grade level as described in their position description.  Experience that would not normally be part of the employee's position is creditable, however, when documented by satisfactory evidence, such as a signed memorandum from the employee's supervisor or an SF-50 or SF-52 documenting an official detail or other official assignment. The documentation must indicate whether the duties were performed full time or, if part time, the percentage of times the other duties were performed. It is expected that this documentation is included in the employee's official personnel record. In order to receive credit for experience in your resume that is not within the official series and grade level of your official position, you must provide a copy of the appropriate documentation of such experience as indicated above.
