As a Public Affairs Specialist in the Office of the Chief Operations (COO), Division of Communications (DOC), in the Office of the Assistant Secretary Preparedness and Response (ASPR), you will support the formation of goals, objectives, plans and strategies for the ASPR  public affairs program; executing campaigns and outreach efforts designed to communication information about ASPR activities to a wide variety of internal and external audiences.

DUTIES:

  • Executes campaigns and outreach efforts designed to communicate information about ASPR activities to a wide variety of internal and external audiences.
  • Provides coordination across Federal program lines in the planning, design, and management of public affairs activities.
  • Develops public affairs guidelines and outreach materials (i.e. news releases, public service announcements, web content, and magazine and journal articles). 
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with news media, public affairs officers in other Federal, State and local government agencies, professional associations and a wide variety of constituency groups.
  • Serves as spokesperson for the organization to the media.
  • Provides technical guidance to ASPR leadership and staff on the development of messaging materials and methods to inform and educate the public on preparedness, response, and recovery issues.
  • Arranges for speeches, news conferences and other public appearances by ASPR officials.

GS-14: At least one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-13 level in the Federal service, developing  communications policy and strategy for a public awareness program (i.e. public health, terrorism, medical emergencies); managing outreach efforts for general public and the media; briefing organization leadership and staff for public appearances; and writing and editing a variety of print, electronic, and broadcast communications materials for internal and external audiences (e.g., feature articles, radio scripts, speeches, fact sheets, public service announcements, website content, and social medial materials).
