Position(s) will be filled under the Department of the Army Pathways Intern Program.

The Department of the Army Pathways Internship Program is designed to provide students enrolled in a wide variety of educational institutions, from high school to graduate level, with opportunities to work in the Department of Army and explore Federal careers while still in school and while getting paid for the work performed.

The Department of the Army Pathways Interns may be converted to a permanent position within 120 days of successful completion of the program.

To be eligible for conversion to a permanent or term position, Interns must:

•Be a U.S. Citizen

•Complete at least 640 hours of work experience acquired through the Internship Program

•Complete their degree or certificate requirements

•Meet the Office of Personnel Management's qualification standards for the position to which the Intern will be converted

•Meet agency-specific requirements as specified in the Participant's Agreement, and;

This position serves in an entry level capacity in the Career Intern Program # 11. The position will perform duties characteristic of the specific occupational series for a 0510 Accountant. Generally the incumbent performs duties designed to provide an orientation in the application of theories and basic principles and practices in support of this specialized occupational area.  Candidate will be in a structured training program until graduation.

You will perform accounting work related to the financial activities of a large Army Working Capital Fund (AWCF)and its activities. You are responsible for the operations and maintenance of ahighly integrated automated accounting system. Provide guidance to managementfor local compliance and implementation. Implement instructions and ensure thatchanges have been fully implemented. Provide management with guidanceconcerning the correct sources and applications of the various funds. Performgeneral accounting, and control for all appropriations and funds of the depotin conjunction with Defense, Finance and Accounting Services (DFAS). Provide guidance and assistance to other depot activities and DFAS personnel concerningfunded equipment projects and/or programs. Validate customer orders for correctcoding of the accounting classifications, cost application codes and joborder/Army Management numbers structure codes to ensure that cost is properlyrecorded.

Basic Qualifications:

Degree:accounting; or a degree in a related field such as business administration,finance, or public administration that included or was supplemented by 24semester hours in accounting. The 24 hours may include up to 6 hours of crediting business law.

OR

Combination of education and experience -- at least 4 years of experience in accounting, oran equivalent combination of accounting experience, college-level education,and training that provided professional accounting knowledge. The applicant'sbackground must also include one of the following: a. Twenty-four semesterhours in accounting or auditing courses of appropriate type and quality. This can include up to 6 hours of business law; b. A certificate as Certified PublicAccountant or a Certified Internal Audit or, obtained through written examination; or c. Completion of the requirements for a degree that includedsubstantial course work in accounting or auditing, e.g., 15 semester hours, but that does not fully satisfy the 24-semester-hour requirement of paragraph A,provided that (a) the applicant has successfully worked at the full-performance level in accounting, auditing, or a related field, e.g., valuation engineering or financial institution examining; (b) a panel of at least two higher level professional accountants or auditors has determined that the applicant has demonstrated a good knowledge of accounting and of related and underlying fields that equals in breadth, depth, currency, and level of advancement tha twhich is normally associated with successful completion of the 4-year course ofstudy described in paragraph A; and (c) except for literal nonconformance to the requirement of 24 semester hours in accounting, the applicant's education,training, and experience fully meet the specified requirements.

AND

Minimum Qualifications/Specialized Experience: For Student Trainee (Accounting) (Pathways Internship), GS-05: Degree: accounting; or a degree in a related field such as business administration,finance, or public administration that included or was supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting. Student Trainee (Accounting) (Pathways Internship),  GS-07 grade level: Specialized experience: To Qualify applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade/level (GS-05). Specialized experience is defined as: 1) experience with regulatory compliance, implementation, and guidance for accounting practice and applications of funds; 2) experience with general accounting and control of appropriations and funds; and 3) Proficientutilizing complex data systems and/or Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel,PowerPoint, etc.). OR

Have 1 full year of graduate level education. Education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work or I have superior academic achievement. (NOTE: You must attach a copy of your transcripts forverification).

OR

Have a combination of specialized experience as described above, but less than one year; and I have more than one year but less than the required education. I have computed the percentage of the requirements that I meet, and the total is at least 100% (To compute the percentage, divide you total 18 monthsof qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate by18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
