The Coast Guard Incident Management Assistance Team (CG-IMAT) rapidly deploys response teams comprised of incident management response specialist to provide Type-1/2 surge capability in support of complex national level incidents and events such as natural disasters, a spill of national significance (SONS) or national special security event (NSSE).
Situation Unit Leader: The position oversees the Situation Unit activities within the Planning Section for incidents of the highest complexity levels, including incidents caused by natural hazards, oil and hazardous material emergencies, terrorist acts radiological hazards, technological incidents, Incumbent implements the directions of the Incident Commander who is under a delegation of authority from the Agency Administrator(s). Candidate must be able to perform the duties and responsibilities listed in the Incident Management Handbook.
Being a Coast Guard (CG) civilian makes you a valuable member of the CG team. Typical work assignment include:
- Collecting, processing, organizing and disseminating incident information relating to growth, mitigation, or intelligence activities taking place on the incident.
- Developing the Information Management Plan, as required including any charts, maps, and overlay imagery necessary.
- Interacting with peers, section chiefs, and command staff officers in accomplishing the responsibilities of the instant position.
- Participating in the development of deliberate and crisis action strategic, operational, and tactical plans during both steady-state operations and when deployed.
- Developing and submitting plans, goals, objectives for new initiatives and programs; and evaluating and providing recommendations for improving effectiveness of existing programs and activities.
NOTE: The incumbent may be exposed to intense physical and mental stress until the response mission is accomplished. This environment will require irregular working hours which may be under austere filed environments that include: living and working in temporary facilities such as tents, warehouses, or other expediently established facilities, significant damage to critical infrastructure that prevents ready access to potable water.

GS-12 level: Applicant must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 position (in the Federal Sector). Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.
Candidate must have the following experience:
Developing plans for employment of maritime (or military) forces in security cooperation exercises and activities outside of the continental U.S.; skill in conducting detailed analysis of alternatives to provide decision makers with courses of action to balance costs and benefits of support to security cooperation exercises and activities; ability to interpret and research laws, regulations, and policies relating to security cooperation activities and personnel management; knowledge of contingency planning procedures; experience providing administrative oversight of personnel assigned to distant and remote locations (e.g., overseas embassies, or OCONUS DoD bases); and experience in public speaking, oral and written communications.
