Position(s) will be filled under the Department of the Army Pathways Intern Program. 

 

The Department of the Army Pathways Internship Program is designed to provide students enrolled in a wide variety of educational institutions, from high school to graduate level, with opportunities to work in the Department of Army and explore Federal careers while still in school and while getting paid for the work performed.  

 

The Department of the Army Pathways Interns may be converted to a permanent position within 120 days of successful completion of the program.

 

To be eligible for conversion to a permanent or term position, Interns must:

  • Be a U.S. Citizen
  • Complete at least 640 hours of work experience acquired through the Internship Program
  • Complete their degree or certificate requirements
  • Meet the Office of Personnel Management's qualification standards for the position to which the Intern will be converted
  • Meet agency-specific requirements as specified in the Participant's Agreement, and;
  • Perform their job successfully as documented through performance evaluations and/or completion of an Individual Development Plan (IDP)

As an Engineering Student Trainee, performs a variety of routine, repetitive tasks that require the application of simple work procedures in the engineering field. Applies the appropriate guidelines in the accomplishment of familiar tasks. Participates in studies, inspections, projects or other activities assigned to higher grade personnel by performing familiar tasks and/or carrying out portions of more difficult assignments for the purpose of acquiring specific subject matter knowledge or skill in the engineering field. Such developmental assignments can include compiling of specified data from records or other sources such as specifications and drawings, performing specified arithmetic computations and plotting data and drawing curves. Performs minor maintenance activities at project location.

REQUIREMENTS FOR INITIAL APPOINTMENT:


To qualify for Pathways Internship Program positions, students must meet the education/training requirements.  Your qualifications will be evaluated based upon your total amount of completed education.

 

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills, abilities)in the following areas:

  • Knowledge of Engineering Technology


EDUCATION QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS ARE AS FOLLOWS:

 

For positions at the GS-03 level:
Successful completion of one (1) academic year of post high school education.

 

NOTE:  One (1) year of education is defined as two semesters (30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours).


NOTE:  Copies of unofficial transcripts/proof of enrollment must be provided at the time of application to support your educational claims.  If selected, OFFICIAL transcripts/proof of enrollment must be submitted prior to establishing a start date.

 

Only degrees from an accredited college or university recognized by the Department of Education are acceptable to meet positive education requirements or to substitute education for experience. Pathways Internship Program Requirements:

  • Must be at least 16 years of age
  • Must be currently enrolled in an accredited school
  • Must be seeking a degree, diploma, or certificate (e.g., high school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED), Vocational/Technical Certificate, Associate's Degree, Bachelor's Degree, Master's Degree, etc.)
  • Must be taking (at least) a half-time course load, as defined by the school.
  • Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 (without rounding)

HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED:

Your application package (resume, supporting documents, and responses to the questionnaire) will be reviewed to verify that you meet the basic eligibility and qualification requirements.  Your responses to the questionnaire will be used to evaluate your relevant personal, educational, and work experiences.
