JOB SUMMARY:

The Residence Coordinator position is located in the Office of AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps. The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring the safety, maintenance, and cleanliness of resident facilities housing up to 500 Corps members who are youths ages 18 to 24.

Together, its Senior Corps and AmeriCorps programs promote the ethic of service and help solve critical community problems in every state, many Indian tribes, and most U. S. territories. As a result, hundreds of thousands of Americans are joining forces to address community needs in education, homeland security, housing, health care, environmental protection, and disaster relief.

Interchange Agreement:

The Corporation for National and Community Service (Corporation) has an approved (by the Office of Personnel Management) civil service interchange agreement. The Corporation is an excepted service agency. Under the terms of the Interchange Agreement, permanent Corporation employees may be considered for appointment to positions in the competitive service in the same manner that employees of the competitive service are considered for transfer to such positions.

·         Establishes and implements systems to ensure that the Campus residence is properly maintained.

 

·         Monitors the day-to-day activities of the Corps members to maintaining order, discipline, and safety in the residence.  Enforces all residence related policies and procedures, e.g., quiet time after 10:00 pm.

 

·         Conducts weekly inspections of the residence for safety purposes looking for and reporting on unsafe mechanical, physical conditions, and member behavior bordering on carelessness or negligence that may involve injury to persons or damage to property, or both. Inspections cover overall residential cleanliness and general maintenance.  Initiates appropriate corrective action, as necessary.

 

·         Identifies problems with physical structures or equipment and writes work orders to correct problems.  Ensures, through coordination with Campus maintenance staff, that all work orders are acted upon in a timely manner.  Maintains work order log.

 

·         Makes arrangements for periodic fire drills and participates in the coordination of the drill.

 

·         Conducts the Corps member orientation program.  Identifies the need for program updates or changes and drafts proposed language or designs visual aids for revisions.

 

·         Plans and coordinates social activities (sporting events, movie night, field trips, etc.) for Corps members.

 

·         Makes Corps member room assignments and assists with issuing uniforms and linens to the Corps members.  Maintains a record of all issued supplies.

 

·         Purchases supplies using the Government Purchase Card and upon receipt, verifies quantity, description, and condition of the items.

 

·         Issues Lap Top computers to Corps members and cleans the hard drive prior to re-issue to a new Corps member.  Maintains an accountability system for the location and condition of each computer.

Applicants must have one year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the upper range of the NY-01 pay band (at, or equivalent to the GS-05 in the Federal Service).  Specialized experience is that which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position and that is typically in, or directly related to the work of the position to be filled.  To be considered qualified, your experience must include:  1) work involving the administrative functions necessary to maintain the smooth operation of a residential facility,  for example: a dormitory, a barracks, a camp; 2) work requiring the identification of maintenance needs and potential safety hazards; 3) work requiring tracking of multiple activities or property like: supplies, computer assignments, schedules.  Note: Volunteer work may count toward the specialized experience requirements.


EDUCATION:

 

You may qualify if you have successfully completed 4 years of education above the high school level in an accredited institution majoring in subjects that would provide you with the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of the position.  If you qualify for the position based on education alone, you must submit an unofficial copy of your college (or school) transcript.  One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, or 45 quarter hours (or an equivalent combination of semester and quarter hours).  One year of full-time study in a business, secretarial, or technical school, must have consisted of 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks.

Status candidates will be referred on one selection list only, i.e., either merit promotion or non-competitive.
