This position is located in the Center for Primary Care, Prevention and Clinical Partnerships, Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) in Rockville, Maryland.

Major Duties: GS-9

·   Conduct literature reviews and other background research; prepare or manage data files; develop or interpret statistical data; draft portion reports; manuscripts and papers.

·   Assist in the development of presentation materials for meetings and conferences; assist in the development of materials for publication in professional journals.

·   Perform project management responsibilities for defined programmatic areas and collaborates with Agency and Center staff in managing project requirements and monitor project progress through completion.

·   Provide assistance with all phases of the Center’s grant and contract activities which will include assisting in the development of grant/cooperative agreement funding announcements.

Major Duties: GS-11

·   Participate in the planning, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of Center programs and initiatives in the assigned specialty area(s).

·   Compile and analyzes data for the preparation of periodic and ad hoc reports for the Center.

·   Develop and maintains systems for tracking recurring requirements and progress toward fulfilling programmatic goals.

·   Track and analyzes data related to the operational and financial activities of assigned projects and larger, more complex projects being carried out by senior staff, also prepares briefings, presentation materials, and other reports in consultation with senior staff members.

·   Support senior staff members in the conduct of research by performing segments of the research activity, contributing to the preparation of complex and comprehensive reports on the results of the Center’s research, and assist with the dissemination of results.

Major Duties: GS-12

·   Serve as a member of a multi-disciplinary staff of researchers with responsibility for planning and conducting research activities for assigned programmatic areas.

·   Serve as a key member of project teams, in conjunction with other Agency staff, on extramural health services research projects.

·   Provide leadership for complex projects and studies covering a wide range of topics and assists in the preparation of papers and reports for distribution throughout AHRQ and beyond.

·   Serve as an advisor on scientific and technical issues to work groups, to researchers in other Federal agencies and to health services researchers and clinicians in public and private institutions. Provides technical and administrative guidance to potential grantees, to contractors, and others participating in the Center’s research opportunities.

Selective Factor: 

In order to meet minimum qualification requirements you must demonstrate possession of the selective factor of this position.  Selective factor includes:  Knowledge of health services research to evaluate grants, cooperative agreements and contracts.

 

Basic Qualification Requirements for Health Research Scientist, GS-601:

 

Have at least a bachelor's degree with major study in an academic field related to the health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. 

Additional Qualification Requirements: In addition to meeting the Basic Qualification Requirements candidates must also:

For GS-9 Grade Level:

 

Have one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-7 grade level in the Federal service, assisting with conducting literature reviews and other background research; preparing and managing data files; conducting and/or interpreting statistical data; drafting portions of reports, manuscripts, and papers; and assisting in the development and dissemination of documents for publication.

OR

 

Have two years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree.

 

OR

Have a combination of graduate education and experience that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position.

 

For GS-11 Grade Level:

Have one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-9 grade level in the Federal service, planning, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating health care and primary care quality improvement projects/studies; compiling and analyzing data for periodic and ad hoc reports; developing and maintaining systems for tracking recurring requirements and progress toward programmatic goals; and preparing briefings, presentation materials, and other reports in consultation with senior staff members.


OR

 

Have three years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.

OR

 

Have a combination of graduate education and experience that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position.


For GS-12 Grade Level:

 

Have one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service, planning, implementing, monitoring, and disseminating a wide range of extramural research focused on improving access, effectiveness and quality of primary and preventive health care services; providing guidance and advise on complex health care services projects/studies; analyzing and synthesizing complex data pertaining to goals and objectives, and research activities for inclusion in reports, briefings, and presentations.
