JOB SUMMARY:

The FMWRC mission is to create and maintain "FIRST CHOICE" MWR products and services for America's Army, essential to a ready, self-reliant force.

These are SUMMER HIRE POSITIONS starting May/June 2013.

The Watervliet Arsenal is an Army-owned and -operated manufacturing center located in New York.  It is the oldest, continuously active arsenal in the United States having begun operations in 1813. Today it is relied upon by U.S. and foreign militaries to produce the most advanced, high-powered weaponry for cannon, howitzer, and mortar systems.  The Arsenal is the only location in the DoD that has a weapons research facility (Benét Laboratories) collocated with a manufacturing facility (Arsenal).

DUTIES:

Serve as a Lifeguard for outdoor pool. Employ safety rules for the protection of the pool guests. Responsible for lifeguarding guests in attendance at the assigned aquatics facility. Provide maximum pool area surveillance and respond to emergencies; rescue pool patrons and administer first aid as required. Responsible for assisting in the conduct of aquatic swimming and water survival training. Attend aquatics and/or safety training as directed.

Assist in maintaining pool, and area clean and free from any hazards. Perform periodic water tests and report results to the pool leader on duty. Provide information to swimmers regarding safety/health/admission rules and procedures. Tactfully warn patrons who repeatedly disregard safety rules. Assist in coaching or preparing the competitive and non-competitive swimming programs as required. Maintain daily logs, reports and records as required.

Participate in any required training (on-the-job training emergency rescue drills, emergency action plan simulations).

Possesses and maintain the following certifications: Lifeguard (American Red Cross or nationally recognized equivalent i.e. Star Guard or Ellis); American Red Cross "Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation for the Professional; CPR for the Professional Rescuer or equivalent (i.e. Star Guard or Ellis) and First Aid.

Conditions of Employment:

1. A one-year probationary period may be required upon selection.

2. You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

5. All required background checks of AR 215-3, must be successfully completed and maintained including Child and Youth National Agency Check with Inquiries (CNACI); to include a health assessment is required.

6. Social Security Card must be presented at time of appointment.

7. Medical Examination will be required along with proof of immunizations.

8. Direct Deposit of Pay is required.

9. You may claim Military Spouse Preference.

10. Documentation to support Military Spouse Preference needs to be submitted at time of application.

11. Applicants claiming Veterans Preference must clearly show an entitlement to such preference on the resume/supplemental data submitted.

About the Surrounding Area:  Watervliet Arsenal  is located within the city of Watervliet, a small residential city which is approximately a 10-minute drive to Albany (the state capital), 30 minutes to historic Saratoga and 1 hour  to Lake George;  located on a bus line and easily accessible to Interstate-787, Interstate -87 and the New York State Thruway.

 

Other Advantages:  Employees at the Watervliet Arsenal work on a compressed work schedule (nine 9-hour work days and one 8-hour Friday each pay period with every other Friday off) and have the following available to them:  work out facility, swimming pool, tennis courts, rental program (e.g., pop-up campers, camping equipment, kayaks, canoes, bicycles), ample free parking, 9-hole par 3 golf course and a youth summer day camp (June - August).
