This position is located in the Director's Office of the Birmingham VA Medical Center.

The Birmingham Veterans Affairs Medical Center (BVAMC) is an integral part of the Medical community that provides acute, tertiary, medical, and surgical care to Veterans of Alabama.   The Medical Center provides care to a veteran population of 420,000 in Alabama and treats approximately 57,000 unique veterans annually.   The medical center serves as a referral center for this area with 138 operating beds with care provided in almost all medical and surgical specialties and subspecialties. Birmingham, AL is located in the heart of the Southeastern United States and is a progressive center for medical research, banking, music, technology, art, engineering, and higher education.

The intern position will be filled by a student under the Pathways Intern Program and will function as an Student Trainee (Medical & Health) within the Director's office at the Birmingham VA Medical Center. The internship is to provide a learning opportunity for a student enrolled in a field of study to enhance their future goals and improve their knowledge with work experience in a working environment.

As an Student Trainee (Medical & Health) you will:

 -Learn the appropriate rules/regulations used in conduting Department of Veteran's Affairs business

- Provide a wide range of management services

- Work closely with hospital management/service chiefs and other key personnel

- Demonstrate initiative in completion of various projects

- Manage time and balance skills to meet demands and establish priorities

- Demonstrate flexibility in order to manage workload

- In addition to these duties other duties may be assigned.

 Work Schedule: Between the hours of Monday thru Friday 7:30 AM & 4:30 PM

 Relocation Expenses: Relocation expenses are not authorized for this position.

 Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met.  Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.

Basic Qualifications:

-Be at least 16 years of age.

-enrolled or accepted for enrollment in a Masters degree program in Healthcare Administration from a CAHME accredited program with a residency requirement

(Applicant must provide proof of enrollment with required documents for application.)

-You must be in good academic standing, not on academic probation.

-Provide transcript and proof of enrollment/acceptance letter.

-Provide a detailed resume showing your eligibility for this position.

-You will be required to sign a Pathways Participant Agreement.
