The Veterans Affairs Southern Nevada Healthcare System (VASNHS) has a vacancy for Licensed Practical Nurse  (LPN) on the Inpatient Mental Health unit . As a Staff Nurse you will provide prescribed medical treatment and personal care services to ill and injured veterans.  Duties include documenting observations, assessments, and changes in patient's condition; collaborating with health team members to facilitate positive patient care outcomes; providing a full range of nursing care to patients with a variety of physical and/or behavior problems; and accountable for meeting and maintaining the qualification standards and functional statements of assigned grade.  Our facility is seeking individuals who possess good organizational skills which enable completion of work, a demonstrated ability to assume leadership in a patient centered program, and the ability to establish effective communication with patients, families, visitors and members of the interdisciplinary team.
The License Practical Nurse is responsible and accountable for the delivery of nursing care to veterans in the VA Southern Nevada Health Care System (VASNHS). The incumbent has the knowledge and skills necessary for concentrated efforts and self-direction in carrying out the most complex practical nursing care assignment with the patients ranging in age from young adulthood to the senior years of life. The nursing care performed by the licensed practical nurse requires a general review by the Registered nurse for technical soundness, appropriateness, and conformity within policy and procedures.
The incumbent will assess and provide treatment to general mental health/medical patients. Duties include but are not limited to:
· Serves as the member of the health care team.
· Provides care to those veterans requiring complex practical nursing care on a regular basis.
· Demonstrates broad work experience and sufficient skill to resolve a range of nursing problems.
· Performs complex practical nursing duties in the Mental Health Inpatient Unit.
· Responsible for the completion of his/her assignment and the quality of care given.
· Displays a professional appearance and attitude while interacting with patients, visitors and other VASNHS

  personnel.

 Relocation expenses will not be reimbursed

(1)   Citizen or national of the United States
(2)   English Language Proficiency: If you are appointed to a direct patient care position, you must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402 (d) and 7407 (d).
(3)   Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the U.S. or in the District of Columbia.
(4)  Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State agency and accredited by the National League of Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
(5) Required Experience: Two years recent clinical experience as a LPN with demonstrated clinical skills. Will consider new graduates.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:Be a graduate of a National League for Nursing Accreditation Commission (NLNAC) or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accrediting school of nursing and meets VA professional and physical requirements as set forth in VHA Handbook 5005, and VA Directive 5102.1 dated November 10, 1999.
