The National Agricultural Statistics Service is the data collection and dissemination arm of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. NASS gathers and publishes a vast array of information on every facet of U.S. agriculture, including production, economics, demographics, and the environment.
The National Agricultural Statistics Service is seeking qualified students to perform statistical clerical assignments in support of the Census of Agriculture.
This is an Excepted Service appointment. As part of the Pathways Internship Program, the appointment may be extended until the selectees educational program requirements have been completed. You may be converted, without a break in service, to a term (time-limited), career, or career-conditional (permanent) appointment upon graduation and completion of program requirements but there is no guarantee. The selectee is on a trial period while on the Pathways Internship appointment.
This announcement will be used to fill full-time or part-time internship positions.
Relocation expenses will not be authorized.

As a student trainee, you will:
- Assist in preparing questionnaires, reports, and publications under the direction of superiors
- Assist in preparing moderately difficult worksheets for summarization of survey data using a calculator or computer spreadsheets and databases
- Assist in preparing and maintaining computerized charts and graphs for use by statisticians or analysts

Applicants must be currently enrolled or accepted for enrollment as a student on at least a half-time schedule at a qualifying educational institution in a certificate, degree, or diploma program.
NOTE: You are REQUIRED to submit proof of enrollment, in the form of letters, records or statements issued from a high school, vocational institution, college or university to verify eligibility requirements.
GS-03: To qualify for this position at the GS-03 grade level, you must possess six (6) months of general experience performing clerical, office or other work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position OR one (1) year of education above high school.
GS-04: Applicants must have 1 year of general experience performing clerical, office or other work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position OR 2 years of education above high school.
GS-05: Applicants must have 1 year of specialized experience at the GS-4 grade level of 4 years of education above the high school level. Specialized experience is experience utilizing computer software and applications to analyze statistical data from questionnaires and experience performing general office procedures.
Combining Education and Experience: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet experience requirements.
