The incumbent of this position serves as an assistant to senior leadership with the responsibility for providing leadership, direction, and management for the organization in the development and maintenance of initiatives to advance the mission of the Division, Center, and support capabilities to plan, direct, and coordinate national and international progress on issues related to public health. Respond to Congressional/Executive Branch inquiries and correspondence requesting information regarding Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) strategies, programs, and responses to health problems; data; and, general information requested about public health issues. Manage briefings, hearings, and visits involving members of Congress, Congressional staff and Executive Branch staff. Prepare testimony for senior managers regarding public health issues, and CDC strategies, programs, and responses to public health issues. Reviews and comments on testimony sent from Office of Management and Budget (OMB), Health and Human Services (HHS), Congressional committees, and partners. Manage the Freedom of Information Act process/requests. Prepares and oversees the writing and production of publications and information about activities and mission which build mutual understanding between the unit and relevant publics. Develop initiates and provides guidance for the preparation of information on the units public health activities intended to keep CDC Office of the Director, other CDC entities, and the national and international organizations informed of the activity issues and strategies. Oversee special projects through researching and/or analyzing problems, issues, or program requirements that may be unstable or complex. Conduct extensive research of data from diverse sources. Extract and assemble information. Develop reports or presentations. Work with others in the organization and partners to ensure proper coordination of issues in support of the organizations mission and goals and represents the organization in policy and planning discussions within CDC and with external partners. Keep senior management informed of developments that are relevant and have an impact on existing/proposed programs and relationships.

GS-12: Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph.
Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include experience in analyzing and evaluating the effectiveness of public health programs; and analyzing and providing recommendations on public health policy issues.
GS-13: Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph.
Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include experience in analyzing, evaluating, and providing leadership and direction on the effectiveness of public health programs; and analyzing and providing recommendations on public health policy issues.
Documenting experience: In accordance with Office of Personnel Management policy, federal employees are assumed to have gained experience by performing duties and responsibilities appropriate for their official series and grade level as described in their position description. Experience that would not normally be part of the employee's position is creditable, however, when documented by satisfactory evidence, such as a signed memorandum from the employee's supervisor or an SF-50 or SF-52 documenting an official detail or other official assignment. The documentation must indicate whether the duties were performed full time or, if part time, the percentage of times the other duties were performed. It is expected that this documentation is included in the employee's official personnel record. In order to receive credit for experience in your resume that is not within the official series and grade level of your official position, you must provide a copy of the appropriate documentation of such experience as indicated above.
