WORK SCHEDULE: 8:00 AM- 4:30 PM. You may be required to provide service evenings and weekends as needed.

The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-13. The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is in the range of GS-11 to GS-13. The Professional Standards Board (a peer-review group) will review the selected candidate's education and experience and recommend the grade and step at which the candidate will be placed. The salary is based on the grade and step approved for the selected candidate.


This position is located at the South Texas Veterans Health Care System in San Antonio, Texas. If you are selected for this position you will serve as a staff psychologist in a primary care setting. In this capacity, you will provide brief individual therapy, brief group therapy, and brief assessment for a range of mood disorders and medical conditions. You will also provide consultation services to members of the interdisciplinary team and participate in program development activities in conjunction with team member. 

Clinical Responsibilities include:

  • Providing a full range of psycho-diagnostic services including the use of psychological testing for patients
  • Performing psychological evaluations for individuals with mental health and medical disorders for purposes of diagnostic clarification and treatment planning recommendations. These evaluations employ a comprehensive diagnostic interview, review of available records, collateral contact when available, as well as objective and cognitive tests when indicated
  • Providing a range of psychological therapeutic interventions primarily with individuals with mental health and medical disorders utilizing empirically supported modalities when indicated
  • Consulting with and serving as a resource for other professional personnel concerning the need for, evaluation of, and development of psychological services
