·        Serves as Director, Health Information Management in the Health Records Department performing the full range of supervisory functions, skill to provide sufficient advisory, education and training or problem solving services on complex problems, projects, programs or functions in the area of medical records.

·        Performs advanced duties of a significant portion representing exceptionally difficult and complex professional, technical and administrative tasks for an outpatient and inpatient medical records.

·        Responsible for coordinating, developing major goals, and objectives for departmental activities. Developing procedures, planning, organizing and monitoring studies involving analysis of data and preparing reports.

·        Specialized in program responsibility in managing electronic systems or technologies, appropriate knowledge in coding, medical terminology, documentation standards, electronic health record (EHR) and medico-legal issues of the health records in ICD-9 CM Coding and DRG calculation, and CPT-4 and HCPCS Coding.

GS-12, must have one year specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11.

For GS-12 Examples of qualifying specialized experience include:  Planning, developing, and directing a medical records program for a health care facility that meets both institutional goals and standards of accrediting agencies.  Evaluating and analyzing the organization and operation of medical records services, including medical records and indexes, and recommending and/or implementing appropriate revisions and modifications. Providing guidance and training to medical and administrative staff in evaluating the quality and appropriateness of patient and health care services. Designing information systems to collect, analyze, monitor, report, and maintain privacy and confidentiality of patient and institutional data for health care related programs, and evaluating and implementing changes to assure the reliability of data. Developing and implementing policies and procedures for processing legal medical documents and insurance and correspondence requests in accordance with Federal, State, and local statutes.

 

SUPERVISORY AND MANAGERIAL ABILITIES: Candidates must have demonstrated in their work experience or training that they possess, or have the potential to develop the following supervisory and managerial abilities.  For second level supervisory position, ability to:

GS-11 and above:  Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related

 

Graduate  Education at the graduate level in an accredited college or university in the amounts shown in the table meets the requirements for positions at GS-7 through GS-11. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.

 

Only graduate education in excess of the amount required for the next lower grade level may be used to qualify applicants for positions at grades GS-9 and GS-11.

 

Successful completion in a medical records administration educational program accredited by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) and the American Medical Association's Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA) is highly desirable.

WHAT TO EXPECT NEXT:

First notification: Once the online questionnaire and resume are received, you will receive an acknowledgement email that your submission was successfully received. Receipt of this email does not confirm receipt of the other required document(s): copy of your license or completed OF-306 Addendum form.
