This is an Air Reserve Technician Enlisted position.

Air Reserve Technicians (ARTs) are part of the regular civil service and enjoy all the benefits granted to Federal employees in the competitive civil service.  In addition, ARTs are required to maintain active membership in an Air Force Reserve unit so long as they occupy ART positions. As members of reserve units, ARTs receive on average one weekend of military training per month. In addition, they are eligible for 15 days active duty tour each year for which military leave is granted with full civilian pay. Air Force Reserve units and members are subject to immediate call to active duty in mobilization to meet a national emergency.

Retired military are usually ineligible for membership in the the Air Force Reserve.  Retired military personnel who have active Air Force Reserve assignments may apply provided they show assignment (position and unit) on their application.

The primary purpose of this Air Reserve Technician (ART) Enlisted position is to serve as a Motor Vehicle Operator.  As such, the encumbent will perform a variety of duties in support of airdrop training to include the operation of one or more types of gasoline, diesel, or electric powered wheeled vehicles; the operation of forklift and K-loaders; the rigging of loads and packing of cargo parachutes. Motor vehicles may include pick-up trucks, carryalls, sedans, ambulances, step vans, and station wagons for carrying passengers and cargo on and off base, through all kinds of traffic, across the flight line or over rough terrain, depending on the type of vehicle being operated.  May operate staircase truck to on and off-load passengers, 10K forklift, 25,000 pound and 40,000 pound K-loaders, 5-ton tractor and 40 feet flatbed trailer, or semi-tractor trailers to on/off-load and transport cargo.  May perform a variety of duties in support of airdrop training and processing incoming and outgoing air cargo shipments.

A specific length of experience or training is not required. However, you must have had experience and/or training (military or civilian, paid or unpaid) of sufficient scope and quality to be able to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Position may or will require incumbent to: (1) Fly in military and/or commercial aircraft in the performance of temporary duty (TDY) assignments. (2) Incumbent's regular assignments are primarily ART duties: however, the incumbent may be assigned some non-ART duties, generally not to exceed 30 percent of total responsibilities.  (3) May be required to work uncommon tour of duty.  (4) Position may require a background security investigation to determine suitability for employment and/or a security clearance. (5) Physical effort is moderate to heavy and associated duties require stooping, bending, climbing. (6) May be required to lift and carry objects weighing up to 40 pounds and heavier objects with assistance. (7) Works mostly outside operating vehicles in all kinds of traffic and weather and are exposed to the danger of serious accidents. (8) Be exposed to dirt, fumes and possibility of cuts, bruises, and broken bones as a result of accidents when loading and unloading the vehicle.  (9) This is a testing designated position.  Incumbent is subject to random drug testing.  (10) Must meet and maintain Air Force Reserve military requirements. (11) Must have a valid driver's license.

The assessment questionnaire is designed to measure your ability in the following Job Elements.  Use the Job Elements as a guide to assist you in identifying your relevant work experience.  ELEMENT A: Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision -- What work can you do by yourself without the help of a boss or supervisor?  Give examples of the kinds of instructions your supervisor gives you when you start a task.  Tell about experience you have had that shows you can work on the basis of your own judgment. ELEMENT C:  Knowledge of Vehicle Operations, Repairs and Parts Installation--List the type of vehicles that you have operated and kinds of maintenance you have performed.

ELEMENT K:  Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, or Blueprints Related to Mobile Equipment Operation--What kinds of instructions, specifications or directives have you had to interpret? Be sure to describe experience in interpreting new instructions or specifications concerning changes in operational procedures.  How frequent were changes? On what jobs did you have to interpret manufacturers' guides, catalogues, technical manuals, drawings, blueprints, charts, or maps? Give examples of the more difficult instructions, etc. you had to interpret. ELEMENT U -- Reliability and Dependability--Give evidence to show you are a steady and reliable worker.  Give number of days absent during the past year from work or school and give reasons for absence.
