This position is located in the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), Office of the Director (OD), Office of Science Management and Operations (OSMO), Office of Research Operations (ORO). The ORO provides short- and long-range planning for all NIAID Divisions and offices; develops and oversees the implementation of strategic facilities and space plans.

You will serve as a Facility Operations Specialist performing and/or assisting with a variety of technical and administrative functions for programs and services.

If selected for this position, you will perform the following duties: 

Maintain, repair, or modify facilities by upgrading or replacing utility systems; inspecting physical structures, utilities, roadways, and surrounding grounds; and planning and overseeing work performed by carpenters, electricians, utility system(s) operators, janitors, and/or others.

Perform comprehensive evaluations of operating methods and procedures and recommend new or improved materials, tools, or work methods which will improve office operations and maintenance.

Serve as a technical expert and furnish technical suggestions and advice on equipment used by services located in the building(s).

Inform contractors of requirements for progress reporting, assist in performing inspections, and confer with contractor representatives to resolve differences of opinion.

Provide assistance in construction operations including inspections of electrical, mechanical and structural aspects of constructions, and may attend pre-bid and pre-constructions conferences to discuss features and requirements.

At the GS-9 level, you will essentially perform the same duties as those at the full performance level described above, however, duties are less complex and will be performed under close supervison with more detailed guidance.

You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-7 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks:  assisting in the management of a maintenance program for an office or other special-purpose installations; performing maintenance or construction work; assisting with the review of project plans and specifications for workability; informing contractors of construction requirements; and assisting in overseeing operations for conformance with project plans.
OR
Master’s or equivalent graduate degree
OR
2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree
OR
LL.B. or J.D., if related.
OR
combination of post baccalaureate education and experience that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position.
