The Sioux Falls VA Health Care System is currently recruiting for a Full Time, Permanent, Registered Nurse (Facility Telehealth Coordinator). This position will be located in the Chief of Staff office.

The Facility Telehealth Coordinator (FTC) major duties include but not limited to:

  • Works closely with primary and specialty medicine care provider(s) and other health care professionals to promote the facility telehealth program. Responsible for overall planning, coordination, implementation, management, and evaluation of clinical applications of telehealth within the facility organization.
  • The incumbent works closely with network and facility leaders and staff to incorporate new concepts and programs into present systems. Provides education and training to all facility staff impacted by program, role, or technology changes.
  • Ensures that the telehealth programming does not impact adversely upon other programs or resources. Being knowledgeable of funding sources and methodologies including Office of Rural Health, the area Rural Health Resource Center, VERA, third party collections, sharing agreement revenues, contracts and enhanced use revenue.
  • Integrates telehealth program planning within facility operations as a whole to ensure goals and priorities are complementary and in congruence with the overall VISN telehealth program. Organizes and facilitates the station Telehealth Steering Committee as well as other committees and task forces as assigned.
  • Serves and / or represents the facility on various Network telehealth groups, including the VISN Telehealth Council.
  • Maintains linkages and effective communications with the Telehealth national training centers for Clinical Video Telehealth (CVT), Store and Forward (SF), and Home Telehealth (HT) to ensure optimal care coordination and telehealth educational opportunities for facility staff.
  • Advocates for telehealth program needs at the facility and brings matters requiring higher level intervention to the attention of medical center leadership. Assures that the facility establishes and utilizes appropriate VHA workload reporting and data management systems for telehealth programs.
  • Monitors core quality and performance measures for all telehealth programs. Maintains a written statement of the telehealth program’s mission and scope of services which is developed with program staff.
  • Ensures that facility telehealth programs comply with Internal (OTS Conditions of Participation) and external (Joint Commission) accreditation processes.

NOTE: Assignment to other areas of the service line, medical center, or other CBOC's may be required. The Registered Nurse reports to the Administrative Officer to the Chief of Staff, however, assignments may be made to other areas for purposes of cross coverage.

BLS and ACLS Preferred.

Work Schedule: The tour of duty for this position is administrative days, Monday – Friday.

  • Citizen of the United States.
  • Education - Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
  • Licensure - Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia.  In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing.
  • Must be proficient in spoken and written English.
    Applicant's education and length of nursing practice (experience) will be considered by a Nurse Professional Standards Board in determining the grade and salary of the applicant selected.   Experience as a RN will be evaluated to determine if the experience is of an acceptable level of quality with regard to the following four dimensions of nursing: Practice, Professional Development, Collaboration and Scientific Inquiry. Each dimension of practice has criteria that demonstrate essential core competencies for VHA Nursing Personnel. The criteria are as follows: Practice: practice, ethics and resource utilization, Professional Development: performance, education/career development, Collaboration: collaboration, collegiality, Scientific Inquiry: quality of care, research.

Education/Experience Minimum Requirements: 
• Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, no experience.
• Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of experience, or an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field and no experience; or a Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) and no experience.
• Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of experience, or an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelors degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of experience; or a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of experience, or a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no experience.
• Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of experience, or ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelors degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 years experience or a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 years experience, or a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no experience. 
• Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 years experience or Doctoral degree in nursing or related field and approximately 2-3 years experience.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The work requires some standing, walking, bending, climbing stairs, lifting, carrying of light items but is mainly a sedentary position consisting of computer entry, answering phones, and teleconferencing.  Duties may require extensive periods of standing and walking occassionally and may also require pushing, pulling or lifting of Telehealth equipment. In many situations, the duration of the activity (such as most of a workday) contributes to the arduous nature of the job.
