This position is located in the USPFO.  The purpose of this position is to serve as a Small Shop Chief (SSC) with the responsibility for the overall operations of a small shop.  The position oversees and directs works of one or more Motor Vehicle Operators, WG-5703, who are assigned to the shop.  The incumbent performs the full range of non-supervisory work of the shop.

Serves as a Small Shop Chief performing all of the following tasks:

 

Plans and lays out work to be accomplished in the shop which is then completed by the individual and lower graded worker(s).  Possess the knowledge and skills found at the journeyman level as well as those required for planning, accomplishing and maintaining a functional shop maintenance program.  Determines approaches, methods and courses of action required to accomplish the mission of the shop in an effective manner.  May provide recommendations and input to the supervisor concerning personnel actions such as performance appraisals, awards, position description changes, disciplinary actions, leave, etc.  Performs the same type and level or work as performed by within the unit.  Performs other duties as assigned.

This is a Permanent Excepted Service position

Military Membership in the Ohio National Guard is required

  • Compatible Military Assignment: ECMF  91  EMOS  36B, 51C, 74B, 88M, 88N, 89A, 89B, 92A, 92F, 92G, 92Y
  • Must have a valid State driver's license for the State in which he or she lives or is principally employed.

General ExperienceExperience, education, or training which demonstrates the ability to follow instruction and safely operate the type of equipment required to accomplish the duties of the position.

Specialized Experience: (WG-09) - 18 months experience in which the applicant demonstrates:

1.  Experience which demonstrates the ability to operate and perform operator maintenance on stright-in-line trucks which typically have and approximate gross vehicle weight of more than 32,000 pounds.

2.  Experience operating truck tractors with semi-trailers or full trailers and motor coaches.

3.  Experience operating vehicles over a variety of roads including interstate highways, narrow county roads, and on steep winding grades; experience driving vehicles without mishap in complicated traffic situations.


Education

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION: NOTE: College Transcripts are required if you wish to use Education as a substitution for experience or if a degree is a requirement for the position.  A copy of the transcript must be submitted with the Job Application. Study successfully completed in a college, university, technical or vocational school may be substituted for experience at the rate of one year of study (30 semester hours or 20 classroom hours of instruction per week) for 6 months of experience.  Courses must be directly related to the work of the position.  Maximum credit is 6 months of specialized experience.

Requirements

This position is being announced in accordance with state merit promotion procedures and collective bargaining agreement. Wearing of the appropriate military uniform is required while employed in this position. Permanent change of duty station (PCS) funds are not available. 

 

If you are an AGR and are selected for this position, you will be required to vacate your AGR status. 

 

Successful applicant will be assigned to a compatible military position in an appropriate unit of assignment in the Ohio National Guard.
