JOB SUMMARY:

The USDA Forest Service has legislative authority to recruit and fill Permanent (Career/Career-Conditional), Temporary, and Term Appointments under the USDA Demonstration Project. Under this authority, any U.S. citizen may apply. This position is being concurrently announced under Merit Promotion Announcement Number 12-51070003-4791-G-CO. There are three positions being filled at three locations:

The duty station for this position will be at one of the three locations listed above. Final determination of duty station will be made by the selecting official at the time of job offer.

Additional selections may be made at any location if another like vacancy occurs within 120 days of the issuance of the certification of eligibles.

These are Recreation Assistant positions located in a residential group living situation on a Job Corps Civilian Conservation Center. The purpose of these positions is to assist in supervising group living activities and to provide practical counseling to students.

This position requires you to obtain a CDL with passenger endorsement within 90 days of appointment. Employees who for personal reasons fail to complete the required CDL training within 90 days, will be held liable for tuition and all associated CDL training costs and may be subject to termination from this position.

Duties listed are at the full performance level; conducting, organizing, and planning various recreational and physical training activities for students; performing inspections and thorough maintenance on proper safety techniques for students; providing practical advice and counsel to individuals on routine problems and promotes positive social and employability skills; providing practical advice and counsel to individuals on routine problems.

To receive consideration for this position, you must meet all qualification requirements as of the closing date of the announcement. You must possess the Basic Requirements identified below to be considered eligible for this position. Your application or resume must clearly show that you possess the appropriate experience requirements.
 
Grade 06: One year specialized experience at least equivalent to a GS-5 level. Specialized experience should demonstrate the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position, or provided familiarity with the subject matter of the occupation directly related to the line of work of the position to be filled, and has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.

Examples of qualifying specialized experience include but are not limited to: Provided on site supervision of individuals with various skill levels and backgrounds during recreational activities; Identified and made changes to recreation processes and/or procedures; Ensured facilities were set up with needed equipment and supplies were on hand for recreational activities. 
 
Grade 07: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least a GS-6 level; one full year (18 semester hours) of successfully completed graduate level education if the coursework is directly related to the work of the position; and/or combinations of graduate level education that is directly related to the position and specialized experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. Specialized experience should demonstrate the applicant’s ability to perform at the full performance level of the position, or be directly related to the line of work of the position to be filled, and has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.

Examples of qualifying specialized experience include but are not limited to: Planned a variety of physical fitness training activities; Conducted physical education classes; Planned recurring special events and recreational activities. 


Requirements:
May be subject to satisfactory completion of one year probationary or trial period. 

Must possess and maintain a valid commercial driver's license This position requires the selectee to obtain or possess a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and therefore, is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Department of Transportation (DOT)/Forest Service Alcohol and Controlled Substance Testing Program. Applicant tentatively selected for this position will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use unless they currently occupy a TDP under the DOT/Forest Service Alcohol and Controlled Substances Testing Program. Final appointment is conditional on a negative drug test. This announcement constitutes 30 days advance notice.

This evaluation is based on the level of your experience, education, and/or training as determined by your responses to the Occupational Questionnaire. REQUIRED DOCUMENTS:
