JOB SUMMARY:

The Nutrition Department is seeking a Registered Dietitian for this position. This position provides Clinical Research Services including nutrition assessments, nutrition counseling and education, and enteral and parenteral nutrition recommendations. The Nutrition Department is committed to providing the best possible nutrition services and research support for patients. The Nutrition Department supports the Clinical Center by preparing and delivering high quality food to inpatients and day hospital patients.

 

The position is located in the Clinical Center.

The duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Coordinate and provide individual nutrition care to patients
  • Provide all components of the Nutrition Care Process (assessment, diagnosis, intervention and monitoring/evaluation) to patients
  • Recommend appropriate nutritional supplements and alternate feeding methods for patients
  • Review and participate in the design of the methodology of the nutritional component of research studies
  • Develop new reference material and periodically update existing reference materials (e.g. diet manual)
  • Provide training and in-services for medical/professional staff, dietetic interns, students and support personnel

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT


A degree in dietetics, food, nutrition, food service management, institution management, or related science, where the curriculum was in accordance with the qualifying requirements established by The American Dietetic Association (ADA) in effect at the time of graduation.

 

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENT

 

You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level in the Federal Government.  Examples of qualifying experience include: providing nutritional care for inpatients or outpatients of a hospital; participating with health teams on clinical rounds; recording findings and plans in the medical record; advising and informing the health team of the patient’s diet and progress;  interviewing newly admitted patients to obtain pertinent background information and diet history which influence food preferences and preparation; developing nutritional care plans based on a physician’s diet prescription, the patient’s medical records, and information obtained during an interview; and instructing patients and families concerning a diet plan.
OR

Have at least 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in a directly related field. 

OR

Have a combination of post-baccalaureate education and experience in a directly related field that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position. 

SELECTIVE FACTOR

 

In order to meet minimum qualification requirements you must demonstrate possession of the selective factor of this position.   Selective factor includes: possession of an active, current registration as a Registered Dietitian (R.D.) with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).

This position is designated as an 'emergency' position and the selected candidate will be considered an 'emergency' employee and will be required to be available, ready, willing, and able to report for duty under all circumstances, e.g., inclement weather, government closings and holidays, lapse in appropriations, non-emergency and emergency situations for operation 24 hours a day and 365 days per year coverage.
