The FDA's Office of Regulatory Affairs is the lead office for all FDA Field activities as well as providing FDA leadership on imports, inspections and enforcement policy. ORA supports FDA Product Centers by inspecting regulated products and manufacturers, conducting sample analysis on regulated products, and reviewing imported products offered for entry into the United States. ORA also develops FDA-wide policy on compliance and enforcement.
The Division of Food Defense Targeting (DFDT) is the lead office for all food defense related targeting, screening, and the risk assessment of imported foods for human or animal consumption. The mission of the DFDT is to protect the public from a threatened or actual terrorist attack on the U.S. food supply and other related emergencies and prevent food that may be intentionally contaminated with biological, chemical, or radiological agents from entering into the United States.
Who May Apply: This vacancy is open to current permanent (career/career-conditional appointments) employees of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Office of Regulatory Affairs (ORA) ONLY. Current FDA/ORA employees serving under a Schedule-A appointment are eligible for consideration. Title 42 employees not eligible for reinstatement will not be considered.

Candidates will be referred to the selecting official as Commissioned Corps (CC) personnel and not as candidates for conversion to a permanent career or career-conditional appointment.
The salary listed in the vacancy announcement includes the geographical locality pay.
LOCATION: This position is located in the Food and Drug Administration, Office of Regulatory Affairs, Office of Operations, Office of Food & Feed Operations, Divison of Food Defense Targeting (DFDT) in Herndon Virginia.
TYPE OF POSITION: This position is being filled on a full-time, permanent basis. The DFDT operates on a 24 hour per day, 3 shifts, per day; 7 days per week schedule. The incumbent selected for this vacancy is to be assigned to the 2nd shift 7:00am to 3:00pm, but incumbent must be willing to work overtime and rotating shifts, if necessary. DFDT Watch Commanders are considered essential services personnel whose duties must be performed even in an emergency or during hazardous weather conditions.
Incumbents assess and evaluate sensitive information related to national security that requires obtaining and maintaining a Top Secret Security Clearance.
SUPERVISORY PROBATION : First time supervisors/managers are required to serve a one year supervisory/managerial probationary period.
PROMOTION POTENTIAL: This is not a career-ladder position; GS-14 is the full performance level.
