The Bureau of the Fiscal Service promotes the financial integrity and operational efficiency of the U.S. government through exceptional accounting, borrowing, collections, payments, and shared services.  The Student Trainee (Travel Systems Technician) provides technical assistance and advice to management and support staff within the agency and to external franchise customers on using an automated federal travel system. The position requires excellent oral communications skills.

    The major duties of this position include:
    * Provide customer service to numerous callers daily in a help desk call center environment on travel-related questions.
    * Log, document, and track all calls received using a call tracking software.
    * Research travel system problems and coordinate corrective action as needed.
    * Maintain the flow of documents in the travel system in a timely manner for processing.
    * Ensure requested system changes and updates in the travel system are made accurately and in a timely manner.

    You must meet the following requirements: You must have one year of progressively responsible clerical, office or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of this position as listed above. OR
    Completion of 2 academic years of post-high school study or associate's degree. OR
    You may qualify by a combination of experience and education.

    You MUST meet the definition of a STUDENT for the duration of your appointment. The definition of a student is: an individual accepted for enrollment or enrolled and seeking a degree (diploma, certificate, etc.) in a qualifying educational institution, on a full or half-time basis (as defined by the institution in which the student is enrolled), including awardees of the Harry S. Truman Foundation Scholarship Program under Public Law 93–842. Students need not be in actual physical attendance, so long as all other requirements are met. An individual who needs to complete less than the equivalent of half an academic/vocational or technical course-load immediately prior to graduating is still considered a student for purposes of this Program.

    An academic year of undergraduate education is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in an accredited college or university.
