NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP REQUIRED

 

This position is located in the Army National Guard, STARC Headquarters, Aviation and Safety Office (Model A)/Safety and Occupational Health Office (Model B), Ground Safety Section.  The purpose of this position is to provide assistance in implementing and administering the troop and operational safety support programs.

Provides safety related expertise to unit commanders and supervisors in the establishment of techniques and procedures for the elimination or control of unsafe acts (conditions), environments or hazards.  Conducts safety assistance visits to units during annual training, convoy, range and other related tactical operations to ensure compliance with all safety regulations and guidelines and to minimize accident risk.  Assists the senior safety specialist in the promotion of the safety programs.  Advises personnel on the need for safety and health protective equipment based on work environments and established regulatory requirements.  May attend and participate in unit safety council meeting to determine potential problem areas and provide guidance in proper safety procedures.  Provides guidance to unit commanders in the storage, handling and transportation of munitions, explosives and hazardous materials.  Performs other duties as assigned.

This is a Permanent Excepted Service position

Military Membership in the Ohio National Guard is required

  • Military Grade:  E-5 to E-8; O-1 to O-4; WO-1 to CW3
  • Compatible Military Assignment: OBR 01A ECMF 00* WOBR 011A (MOS Immaterial)

General ExperienceExperience, education, or training in scientific or technical work that provided an understanding of the basic principles and concepts of the safety and occupational health field.

Education

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION: NOTE: College Transcripts are required if you wish to use Education as a substitution for experience or if a degree is a requirement for the position.  A copy of the transcript must be submitted with the Job Application. Study successfully completed in a college, university, technical or vocational school may be substituted for experience at the rate of one year of study (30 semester hours or 20 classroom hours of instruction per week) for 6 months of experience.  Courses must be directly related to the work of the position.  Maximum credit is 6 months of specialized experience.

Requirements

This position is being announced in accordance with state merit promotion procedures and collective bargaining agreement. Wearing of the appropriate military uniform is required while employed in this position. Permanent change of duty station (PCS) funds are not available. 

 

If you are an AGR and are selected for this position, you will be required to vacate your AGR status. 

 

Successful applicant will be assigned to a compatible military position in an appropriate unit of assignment in the Ohio National Guard.
