The Medical Practice, Infectious Disease, and Women's Health Care Clinics are composed of primary care clinics that address preventive health care, health maintenance needs and primary care for eligible veterans. Same day health services and other integrative services such as Nursing, Pharmacy, Social Work, Nutrition and Behavioral Health are also offered in this setting.

 

Duties:

 

   This NP will be accountable for the management and evaluation of a panel of patients under his/her care. The NP provides comprehensive preventative and wellness care as well as the spectrum of acute, episodic, chronic and end of life care to veterans.

   This NP will work collaboratively with the Teamlet (Patient, Primary Care Provider, RN, LVN, and MSA) and with the larger Team (family/caregiver, internal and community-based services and disciplines involved in providing care to the patient) in developing the patient-driven holistic care plan for life.

   Clinic duties of the NP include but are not limited to the following:

1. Performing history and physicals, diagnosing and creating treatment plans.

2. Ordering lab and diagnostic images or tests.

3. Referring to specialty clinics and consulting with physicians when appropriate.

4. Triaging and coordinating follow-up appointments and/or outside care.

5. Performing pre-op surgical evaluation.

6. Promptly clearing reminders to meet medical center goals.

 

Requirements :  

 

    1)Possession of current, full, active, and unrestricted RN license with proof of Nurse Practitioner status.
    2)National Certification in the area of specialty, i.e. ANP, FNP, Geriatrics.Current BLS certification.
    3)At least two years of NP experience in Primary Care dealing with patients who have multiple complex medical issues is required. Extensive knowledge of current pharmacology for management of common diseases and conditions.
     

Preferred Qualifications:

      Current NP Furnishing license and verification of experience to furnish is preferred.
      NP experience/practice in a primary care setting with Women's Health Care is preferred. 
        Schedule/Hours:

      Monday through Friday, daytime hours. 

       

      This position is eligible for consideration for the Education Debt Reduction Program for fiscal year 2013.

      • Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant:  The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). 
      • Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia
      • Registered nurse as defined by the California Board of Registered Nursing and completion from an accredited college or university based Nurse Practitioner Program.
      • MSN and NP National Certification.

      License/Certification:

      • Current CPR certification
      • Current National Certification in the area of specialty, i.e. ANP, FNP, ACNP, WHNP, Geriatrics.
      • Current BRN license with proof of Nurse Practitioner Status.
      • Current NP Furnishing License and verification of experience to furnish preferred

      Applicant's education and length of nursing practice (experience) will be considered by a Nurse Professional Standards Board in determining the grade and salary of the applicant selected.   Experience as a RN will be evaluated to determine if the experience is of an acceptable level of quality with regard to the following four dimensions of nursing: Practice, Professional Development, Collaboration and Scientific Inquiry. Each dimension of practice has criteria that demonstrate essential core competencies for VHA Nursing Personnel. The criteria are as follows: Practice: practice, ethics and resource utilization, Professional Development: performance, education/career development, Collaboration; collaboration, collegiality, Scientific Inquiry: quality of care, research.     Education/Experience Requirements: 

      • Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, no experience.
      • Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of experience, or an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field and no experience; or a Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) and no experience.
      • Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of experience, or an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelors degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of experience; or a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of experience, or a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no experience.
      • Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of experience, or ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelors degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 years experience or a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 years experience, or a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no experience. 
      • Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 years experience or Doctoral degree in nursing or related field and approximately 2-3 years experience.
