JOB SUMMARY:

The Department of Veterans Affairs is interested in attracting the best talent for our diverse cadre of SES members from all sources: within VA, the Federal government, and from the private sector. Department of Veteran Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) Memphis’s mission is to honor America’s Veterans in all that we do by providing timely, quality care, outstanding customer service, education of tomorrow’s health care providers, and improvement in health care outcomes through research. VAMC Memphis is a tertiary care facility classified as a Clinical Referral Level I Facility. A teaching hospital, providing a full range of patient care services, with state-of-the-art technology as well as education and research. The facility operates 120 Acute Care beds, 60 Spinal Cord beds, 32 Psychiatric In-patient beds and 26 Psychiatric Residential beds, 10 Community Based Outpatients Clinics (CBOC) spread throughout Tennessee, Mississippi, and Arkansas.  VAMC Memphis is part of VA Network 9 along with Huntington, WV; Lexington, KY; Mountain Home, TN; Murfreesboro, TN; and Nashville, TN.  The facility provides services for more than 62,000 enrolled Veterans.       

 

VA structures its SES positions into pay bands.  This is a Pay Band 1 position and the salary range is $119,554 to $179,700.   

 

A recruitment/relocation incentive and/or Appraised Value Offer (formerly Guaranteed Home Buyout) may be authorized.

The Health System Administrator (Medical Center Director), reports to the VISN 9 Network Director, Mid-South Healthcare Network. Responsibilities for this position include:


Full delegated line authority and responsibility for executive level management with overall responsibility for planning, organizing, directing, coordinating, controlling, reviewing, evaluating and improving medical, administrative, and supporting the operations of a health care facility. Determines program goals and objectives; develops short and long range plans for achieving them; plans include adjustments to improve delivery of patient care services; provides executive leadership and direction to subordinate organizations; develops and coordinates a quality assurance program to ensure compliance with standards issued by accrediting and regulatory groups; allocates and manages available resources (financial and personnel) to provide quality health care; captures changing needs of varying customers via outreach in veteran communities, conventions, etc., and works effectively with all stakeholders to achieve optimum outcomes.

The Senior Executive Service (SES) is comprised of the men and women charged with leading the continuing transformation of government. These leaders possess well-honed executive skills, share a broad perspective of government, and a public service commitment.

Step 4: Structured interviews to determine Best Qualified (BQ) applicants

Step 6: Approval by the Selecting Official (May include additional screening)

Step 7: OPM Qualifications Review Board (QRB) Certification
