JOB SUMMARY:

This position is in the Information Technology Division of the Office of Cuba Broadcasting in Miami, Florida.  Incumbent will perform basic duties that encompass a wide variety of Information Technology related tasks. 

THIS POSITION IS COVERED BY A UNION AGREEMENT

The Recent Graduate Program is a one-year program that targets individuals who have graduated from qualifying educational institutions or programs within the previous 2-years or 6-years if you are a veteran.  Successful applicants will be placed in a one- year career development program.  This position is at the GS-5 entry level, with an opportunity for permanent appointment upon successful completion of the program.

The Broadcasting Board of Governors (BBG), an independent federal agency, is an exciting, multi cultural organization that encompasses all U.S. civilian international broadcasting. The BBG is comprised of the Voice of America, which delivers high quality, multimedia programming in 44 languages to audiences worldwide; the Office of Cuba Broadcasting (Radio and TV Marti); the International Broadcasting Bureau, which provides transmission, administrative, and other support services; and three grantee organizations - Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty; the Middle East Broadcasting Networks (Alhurra TV and Radio Sawa), and Radio Free Asia. Our staff of dedicated professionals serves as an example of a free and independent media, reaching a worldwide audience with news, information, and relevant discussions.

Duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Provide operational support to all agency end-user hardware and software, PCs, workstations and Internet.
  • Assists with troubleshooting and recovery plans for systems failure situation.
  • Performs integrity tests and enhances the ability to detect damaged or lost files.
  • Assists in the relocation of all types of end-user equipment.
  • Provides assistance to staff in the use of desktop hardware and software.
  • Ensures prompt, efficient and satisfactory response to staff's computer problems requests.

Basic Qualifications:  Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level, GS-4, which is directly related to this line of work and IT related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below:

 

1.   Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.

2.   Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individual who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organization outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.

3.  Oral Communication - Express information )for example, ideas or facts to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

 

Specialized Experience"  is defined as having knowledge of computer systems, hardware, software, applications, data sources, networking, and the integration of these areas with each other and ability to analyze, evaluate, troubleshoot and resolve basic related problems.


Education

A full 4 year course of study that meets all the requirements for a bachelor's degree with major study in the subject matter field of the position to be filled.  Major field of study may include Computer Science, Engineering, Information Science, Information Systems Management, Mathematics, Operations Research or Technology Management OR if you are a veteran, you must have graduated within the previous 6 years from an accredited institution and completed one of the academic programs listed above.

Suitability Determination: If selected, you will be subject to a security investigation to establish your suitability for federal employment. The security investigation will include, among other aspects, a review of your credit and legal history.
