This is a Direct Hire Public Notice; under this recruitment procedure, each location/installation, identified in this Public Notice will make selections for vacancies as they occur. These positions are being filled under Expedited Hiring Authority (EHA) for acquisition positions located at Air Force installations identified in this public notice. Positions may be filled as permanent with a full-time work schedule. Pay will vary by geographic location.

The PALACE Acquire Program offers you a permanent position upon completion of your formal training plan. As a Palace Acquire Intern you will experience both personal and professional growth while dealing effectively and ethically with change, complexity, and problem solving. The program offers a 3-year formal training plan with yearly salary increases. Promotions and salary increases are based upon your successful performance and supervisory approval. Perform a variety of tasks in support of projects assigned to higher level analysts.   Plans work procedures and selects standard methods and techniques to be applied to development and assessment projects or problem solving studies.  Applies the various steps of accepted operations research procedures to search for information to bear on a system, process and/or operational problems, and performs techniques involving difficult calculations or exact comparability determinations.  Performs special research tasks designed to utilize and enhance knowledge of work processes and techniques, and to afford an opportunity to apply the fundamentals of associated disciplines (e.g., mathematics).  Identifies sources of data and performs data acquisition and reductions.  Make minor adaptations in techniques or methods to achieve stated objectives of the assignment.   Develops reports which summarize accomplishments and results of assignments, and presents findings within own organization.  Keep abreast of emerging technologies and professional developments to remain current in the field and for application to work assignments.  Uses computers/computer software such as analysis tools to solve operational research problems and facilitate work.

Basic requirements for all grades:

You have or will have completed a degree in operations research; or at least 24 semester hours in a combination of operations research, mathematics, probability, statistics, mathematical logic, science, or subject-matter courses requiring substantial competence in college-level mathematics or statistics. At least 3 of the 24 semester hours must have been in calculus. Courses acceptable for qualifying for operations research positions may have been taken in departments other than Operations Research, e.g., Engineering (usually Industrial Engineering), Science, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, or Management Science. The following are illustrative of acceptable courses: optimization; mathematical modeling; queuing theory; engineering; physics (except descriptive or survey courses); econometrics; psychometrics; biometrics; experimental psychology; physical chemistry; industrial process analysis; managerial economics; computer science; measurement for management; mathematical models in social phenomena; and courses that involved application of operations research techniques and methodologies to problems of management, marketing, systems design, and other specialized fields; or other comparable quantitative analysis courses for which college-level mathematics or statistics is a prerequisite. Courses in theory of probability and statistics are highly desirable, but are not specified as minimum educational requirements because to do so would possibly exclude some applicants who would otherwise be well qualified. In addition to meeting the basic entry qualification requirements, applicants must have specialized experience and/or directly related education. The requirements are as follows:

You have 1 year of graduate-level education or superior academic achievement and 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-5.


You meet the superior academic achievement definition; i.e., a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.95 overall or in the last two years; or 3.45 GPA in the major overall or last two years; or rank in the upper one third of my graduating class; or I am a member in a National Honor Society (not in my Freshman year). If more than 10 percent of your total undergraduate credit hours are non-graded, i.e. pass/fail, CLEP, DANTES, CCAF, military credit, etc you cannot qualify based on GPA if you are attempting to qualify based on education.

Positions filled under General Schedule (GS) at entry level. Early promotion or re-promotions will not be granted.  During the three-year training program, there will be annual promotion opportunities based upon meeting time-in-grade requirements, successful performance, and supervisory approval at each grade level.  You will be eligible for noncompetitive promotion to the intervening and target grades dependent on satisfactory performance, successful completion of a full year of training at each lower grade level, and supervisory approval.
