DUTY LOCATION/CAMPUS:  Nursing Service, Little Rock/North Little Campus, Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System

 

TOUR OF DUTY:  Irregular - Based on the needs of the service.

 

As a Nursing Assistant, you will be responsible for bringing patient to his/her room; assisting patient to bed and applying patient arm band and name plate in appropriate places; obtaining vital signs, height and weight; assuring patient is oriented to surroundings; assisting RN with initial interview; obtaining and explaining supplies and equipment.

  

Area of Consideration:  US CITIZENS

The initial area of consideration is this Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System (CAVHS). Management retains the right to select any appropriate recruitment methods such as current Federal employees serving on a career or career-conditional appointment, Reinstatement eligibles, those eligible for a non-competitive appointment under a Special Appointing Authority such as those for disabled veterans, those eligible for Veterans Recruitment Appointment (VRA) under the  Veterans’ Employment Opportunities Act of 1998,veterans eligible for a VEOA appointment, severely disabled individuals, Interchange Agreements with other Agencies, etc. Candidates from other sources may be considered only after consideration has been given the best qualified candidates from this CAVHS. DUTIES: 

·         Performs moderately difficult nursing care tasks requiring knowledge of specific patient conditions and treatments

·         Identifies nursing needs of individual patients and takes an active part in admissions, dietary needs, safety and comfort of patient

·         Determines from observation, changes in patient condition

·         Participates in teaching both patient and families regarding care being provided

·         Duties are performed with intermittent supervision by the charge nurse

·         New or unusual tasks are checked during progress and upon completion until employee is well trained

 

The full performance level of this position is GS-05.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR GS-05 LEVEL:  

ONE (1) YEAR of specialized experience that equips with you the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position at the GS-5 level.  To be creditable, this experience must be equivalent to at least the GS-4 grade level in Federal service.  Qualifying specialized experience includes nonprofessional nursing care work in a hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home, or medical, nursing, or patient care facility, or in such work as that of a home health aide performing duties such as, personal nursing care (pre- and post-operative care), support duties for diagnostic and technical treatment procedures, caring for mentally ill patients, and assisting surgeons and registered nurses in operating room activities, OR

 

Have successfully completed a 4 year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with courses related to the occupation in an accredited community college, junior college, or college/university in practical nursing or in a field of study appropriate to the specialization of this position, such as education in a program for a psychology, psychiatric, or operating room technician.
