DUTIES:

- Responsible for administering a safety, occupational health, and environmental improvement programs encompassing the operation, maintenance, and construction of the full range of Reclamation facilities, including power plants, dams, tunnels, bridges, roads, canals and related features.

- Coordinates all safety, occupational health, and environmental improvement activities with the Regional and Reclamation Safety Managers to assure uniform and compliant program accomplishments within the Area Office.

- Responsible for education, training and accident investigation throughout the Area Office.

- Provides technical guidance and direction for implementing Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Standards for Industrial settings.

- Develops and implements Area Office programs that will assure safe, healthful, and efficient operations that comply with those requirements. In the course of carrying out assigned duties, the incumbent may be required to work in confined spaces or climb ladders to heights of more than 20 feet.

Specialized Experience Requirement:

FOR THE GS-12 LEVEL: one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal service.

EXAMPLES OF SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applying safety, occupational health, and environmental improvement laws, regulations, principles, theories, practices, and procedures to advise on or resolve technical matters; analyzing or evaluating new and existing jobs, processes, products, or other systems to determine the existence, severity, probability, and outcome of hazards; designing or modifying workplaces, processes, products, or other systems to control or eliminate hazards; inspecting or surveying workplaces, processes, products, or other systems for compliance with established safety, occupational health, and environmental improvement policies or standards and identify potential new hazards.

HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED:

Category rating and selection procedures will be used to evaluate applications from this announcement. If you meet the basic qualification requirements, your on-line responses to the vacancy assessment questionnaire will be used to determine the quality and extent of your experience, education, training, etc., for placement in one of the following categories: 1) Best Qualified, 2) Well Qualified, and 3) Qualified.
