As a Supervisory Physical Scientist, you will: 
* Direct a professional staff of civilian personnel and oversee contractors engaged in the research, development, test and evaluation aimed at developing and demonstrating technologies and operational capabilities fundamental to supporting Arms Control Monitoring and Treaty verifications.

* Provide advice and assessment to decision/policy makers in DOD and the interagency on advanced technology, concepts, tactics, and techniques.

* Direct Arms Control technology development efforts that are designed to improve US capabilities and monitor compliance with Treaties and International Agreements.

* Develop new programs, direct the preparation of the program plan, lead the Treaty Technology Office and its programs, and direct it to achieve performance goals within cost and schedule, and informs DTRA management and Service/Agency customers of the results.

* Serve as a national-level expert in developing and demonstrating technologies in support of Arms Control initiatives.

To qualify, you must possess 1 year of SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE equivalent to the next lower grade to perform successfully the duties of the position and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled.  Specialized experience is described as experience providing management control of and internal/external coordination for Arms Control programs and projects.

 

The experience described in your resume will be evaluated and screened for the Office of Personnel Management's (OPMs) basic qualifications requirements and other competencies needed to perform the duties of the position as described in the MAJOR DUTIES section of this announcement. The QUALITY of experience relates to how closely or to what extent your experience, education and training are relevant to the duties and responsibilities of the announced position. Specifically you will be evaluated on the following competencies:

 

1. Knowledge of Arms Control technology, programs and projects with special emphasis on nuclear and strategic arms control monitoring and verification needs and capabilities.

2. Ability to develop long-range vision, near and long-term goals, direction, and associated investment strategy for research, development, test and evaluation programs.

3. Ability to plan, develop, and carry out vital scientific tasks that effect the prioritization of research efforts.

Minimum Education for the 1301:

 

Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics; OR,

 

Combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

This is an Acquisition, Technology, and Logistics Workforce Critical Acquisition Position (CAP) in the Systems, Planning, Research, Development and Engineering Career Field.  The incumbent must become certified Level III in the applicable career field within 24 months unless a Position Requirements Waiver is approved to extend the 23 months.  The incumbent must also meet requirements for membership in the DoD Acquisition Corps.  The Selectee for this position will be required to sign a written agreement to remain in this critical acquisition positions for a minimum of 3 years.

 

You must be available for weekend travel, weekend layovers during travel, and long hours while in travel status.  Individual TDY is required approximately 25% of the time, and may vary given the nature and urgency of assigned projects.
