This position is a full-time term appointment. Term appointments may be extended up to 4 years at the discretion of management and in accordance with applicable regulations.
This position is located in the Voice of America's South Asia Division. The incumbent serves as an International Broadcaster for the Pashto Service, with responsibility for conceiving, planning, researching, writing and broadcasting original audio/video/web scripts and providing Internet content for the website.

Duties include but are not limited to:
~Writes, voices and produces news-related stories and packages in Pashto for use in radio, television and Internet posting.
~Translates news stories, articles and other content from English into Pashto and vice-versa.
~Presents live and pre-recorded radio programs and call-in shows.
~Writes feature stories on a variety of subjects for radio, television and web posting.
~Initiates and conducts original telephone and in-person interviews and covers Washington-area events relevant to Afghan Service news coverage.
~Participates in the development of regularly scheduled radio, television programs. Initiates coverage of news and features, participates fully in coverage of major events and in preparation and execution of broadcast remotes.
~Prepares and/or presents news and feature materials in a studio or on location for radio/television simulcast. May serve as show host.

Basic Qualifications: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience which is directly related to this line of work AND must be fluent in the Pashto language that enables you to write, type, report, interview and broadcast/webcast in this language.
Specialized Experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Examples of such experience includes writing, editing, interviewing, reporting and broadcasting stories for radio, television, web and preparing audio and video content for websites.
Suitability Determination: If selected, you will be subject to a security investigation to establish your suitability for federal employment. The security investigation will include, among other aspects, a review of your credit and legal history.
