The candidate for this position will serve as a Unit Head in the Index Section in the Bibliographic Services Division of the Division of Library Operations.

As the Supervisory Technical Information Specialist, some of your duties include:

  • advising and managing on best practices to ensure quality of MEDLINE indexing;
  • modifying indexing policies as biomedical literature and user needs change;
  • developing and implementing technological solutions to enhance indexing quality and production;
  • compiling monthly, quarterly, annual, and other statistical and narrative reports; and
  • administrative and technical supervision of staff.

Basic Requirements:

You must have a full 4-year course of study that meets all the requirements for a bachelor's degree with major study in the subject-matter field of the position to be filled.

OR

 You must have four years of experience that provided a knowledge of the basic principles, theories, practices, techniques, and terminology of a discipline or subject-matter field; an understanding of the standard methods, procedures, and techniques of research and analysis in the subject-matter field; and where appropriate, ability to read and comprehend nontechnical material in one or more foreign languages.  Such experience must have been equivalent to that which would have been gained through a 4-year college curriculum.

OR

You must have a combination of education and experience as described above.

 

In addition to meeting the basic requirements:

You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal Government.   Examples of qualifying experience include:  analyzing and indexing biomedical journal literature; coordinating activities related to biomedical indexing production and quality assurance; developing systems for managing and indexing journal citations; contributing to the development and use of controlled vocabularies; developing and communicating biomedical indexing policies and procedures; advancing the use of automation to improve workflow processes and procedures.
