The BLM manages more land – 253 million acres – than any other Federal agency. This land, known as the National System of Public Lands, is primarily located in 12 Western states, including Alaska. The Bureau, with a budget of about $1 billion, also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estates throughout the nation. The BLM's multiple-use mission is to sustain the health and productivity of the public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.

As a Custodial Worker you will be assisting in the upkeep, maintenance, repair, and grounds keeping duties in and around the Galena Fire Management Zone buildings for the Alaska Fire Service.

As a Custodial Worker, you will:

    • Perform daily tasks to maintain, repair, clean and upkeep the BLM facilities.
    • Clean floors by vacuuming, sweeping, wet/dry carpet cleaning, mopping and waxing.
    • Clean and disinfect urinals, toilets, sinks, showers, tubs, water fouintains, mirrors and plumbing fixtures.
    • Apply paint; perform minor plumbing; move furniture, equipment, and materials; and dust and polish furniture.
    • Maintain landscaping around buildings to include lawns, sidewalks, and flower beds.
    • May be required to operate a government vehicle.

    Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Job Qualifications System for Trades and Labor Occupations will be used in determining applicants' qualifications. There is no specific length of training or experience required; however, you must be able to demonstrate through experience shown in your written resume that you have the ability to independently do the work of the position, as defined below, without more than normal supervision. You must be rated at least at the acceptable level in these elements to receive further consideration. Qualifications:  Have performed basic custodial duties to include cleaning floors, washing walls and windows, dusting and moving furniture, and cleaning and sanitizing bathrooms; operating passenger vehicles; and performing grounds maintenance to include mowing lawns and weeding.
