This is a student trainee (Intern) position. The Pathways Intern Program is designed to provide students enrolled in a wide variety of educational institutions, from high school to graduate level, with opportunities to work in agencies and explore Federal careers while still in school and while getting paid for the work performed.
This position provides biological support and staff of a Region 2 Fish and Wildlife conservation office, National Fish Hatchery and or Aquatic Resource Center located in San Marcos, Texas.

·Works with higher-graded technicians and scientists to collect field and laboratory data.
·Inspects and maintains recirculating systems daily.
·Provides daily animal care to refugium organisms
·Assist in field and laboratory data collection on projects relating to listed native and/or recreational species.
·Computes, compiles and analyzes data in tabular, graphic or narrative form, enters data collected to databases and applies statistical data analysis techniques.
·Assists professional biologists by reviewing, cataloging, performing literature reviews, and filing technical publications and material, extracting and compiling information as needed for report preparation.

Qualification Requirements for the GS-0499-5 position; you must meet A, B or C to qualify.
A. Have successfully completed a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with a major degree as described in OPM's Individual occupational requirements for the 303 series.
B. At least one year of full-time specialized experience comparable in difficulty and responsibility to the next lower grade level (comparable to GS-04) in the Federal service. Examples of specialized experience must include:This experience includes performing administrative functions (e.g., payroll, personnel, travel, and/or correspondence), using office procedures and equipment, and meeting and dealing effectively with others.
C. Have an appropriate combination of education and experience. PLUS appropriate experience or additional course work. The quality of the combination must demonstrate that you possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the work of the position and is comparable to that normally acquired through the completion of a full four year course of study with a major as described above. Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Work requires considerable amount of walking, standing, stooping, and lifting on uneven and wet surfaces. The employee works in and around raceways, ponds, rivers and steep river banks. Is required to lift up to fifty pounds and must be able to swim.
