This position provides general administrative support to the National Weather Service, Weather Forecast Office (WFO), River Forecast Center (RFC) or Division performing a variety of administrative duties to relieve the supervisor of administrative, coordination, staffing and office management details. 

This position is also being advertised as an Administrative Support Assistant, GS-0303-08 under announcement number NWS-ER-2013-0004 (open to status candidates).

A one-year probationary period may be required.

This is a bargaining position.

The individual selected for this position will:

  • Be responsible for overall general management and execution of all administrative functions in an effective and timely manner.
  • Independently plan, manage, develop and control a wide variety of administrative programs and actions necessary for day-to-day operation--both routine and unusual.
  • Have knowledge of human resources, budget, procurement, contracting, property management and logistics.
  • Have knowledge of various organizations within the agency and knowledge of applicable procedures and regulations.
  • Perform administrative duties listed above efficiently and effectively.

There is no positive education requirement for this position.

Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the next lower grade level (GS-07) in the Federal service.  Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This experience need not have been in the federal government.

Specialized experience for the GS-08 level is defined as: Experience with budget/finance, travel, procurement, human resources, time and attendance, property management and additional administrative functions which require independent decision-making.  Such experience must be non-routine, performed independently, and in varied administrative areas.

For the GS-8 level, there is no educational substitution for specialized experience. Your resume must document specialized experience and support your responses to the vacancy questions.

HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED:

We will review your resume, optional cover letter and supporting documentation to determine if you meet the minimum qualifications for the position. If you meet the minimum qualifications stated in the vacancy announcement, we will compare your resume, optional cover letter and supporting documentation to your responses on the scored occupational questionnaire (True/False, Yes/No, Multiple Choice questions) and place you in one of three pre-defined categories. These categories are "gold," "silver," and "bronze."
