JOB SUMMARY:

The Department of Veterans Affairs is interested in attracting the best talent for our diverse cadre of SES members from all sources: within VA, the Federal government, and from the private sector. Jesse Brown VA Medical Center is a 200-bed inpatient facility located at 820 S. Damen Avenue in Chicago. It also operates four Community Based Outpatient Clinics located in the Lakeside (downtown) area and Auburn Gresham (south side) community in Chicago, in Chicago Heights, IL; and the Adam Benjamin, Jr. VA Outpatient Clinic in Crown Point, IN, which serves the four counties of Northwestern Indiana.       
The Jesse Brown VA Medical Center is a tertiary care facility classified as a Clinical Referral Level 1 facility, with bed serves in acute medicine, surgery, psychiatry, neurology and rehabilitation medicine.       
Jesse Brown VA Medical Center is a teaching hospital, providing a full range of patient care services, with state-of-the-art technology as well as education and research.        
Specialized programs exist in comprehensive cancer care and non-invasive cardiology.         
Comprehensive health care is provided through primary and tertiary care in the areas of medicine, surgery, psychiatry, radiology, physical medicine and rehabilitation, neurology, oncology, dentistry and geriatrics.         
Jesse Brown VA Medical Center is located on a 13-acre tract in the Illinois Medical District located on the near west side of Chicago.  The site includes three projects constructed through an enhanced use lease agreement: a Chicago Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA) Regional Office Building, which opened in February 2004; a 1,560 space parking facility, which opened in November 2003, and an Energy Center, which was completed in 2003.

The Director is responsible to the VISN 12 Network Director, Jeffrey A. Murawsky, M.D. The position requires the effective and economical direction, control, and operation of [insert area of responsibility]. The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:        
Strategic direction and operations of a tertiary hospital, including making financial and other decisions that affect the nature, scope and quality of patient care programs and activities.       
Establishes hospital policy and procedures consistent with VISN 12, VHA and VA corporate guidelines and directives.       
Creating and maintaining a culture of continuous excellence and performance improvement that assures high quality care, patient satisfaction and employee satisfaction.       
As the Equal Opportunity Officer and Diversity/Inclusion Champion for the hospital, the Director has motivational and leadership responsibilities with respect to planning, directing, reviewing, evaluating and improving the EEO and other special employment program initiatives required by statue, regulation and policy.

As a member of the VISN 12 Executive Leadership team, responsible for active partnership, support of VISN initiatives geared to successful accomplishment of the patient care and/or Veteran's benefits missions.
