A U.S. Census Bureau Term employee with career status who is selected for this position will receive a permanent appointment. This vacancy is for an Administrative Assistant (OA) position in the Information Systems Support and Review Office (ISSRO), located at the U.S. Census Bureau Headquarters in Suitland, Maryland.

A one year probationary period may be required.

Relocation expenses may be paid.

This is a bargaining unit position.

This position may be filled through means other than the competitive promotion process.

The individual selected for this position will:

MAJOR DUTY 1 Assist with the administrative functions of the Administrative Office within the IT Directorate (e.g. training, travel, procurement, property inventory, mail, space management, leave audits, and time and attendance).

MAJOR DUTY 2 Serve as Government Purchase Card Holder for the IT Directorate.

MAJOR DUTY 3 Assist the Administrative Officer in the administration of the Division’s human resources activities. 

MAJOR DUTY 4 Assist with the preparation of personnel action requests and coordination of personnel management for the IT Directorate.

MAJOR DUTY 5  Assist with establishment of positions, incentive awards, training, performance appraisal program, and other personnel policies and procedures

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To be minimally qualified for this position, applicants MUST have a typing proficiency of at least 40 words per minute with 3 or fewer errors based on a five-minute sample.


In addition, you must have the experience or education listed below or a combination of both.  You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the grade 04 level.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:  Specialized experience is work experience performing various administrative duties which include reviewing correspondence for spelling and typographical errors; providing information or referring telephone calls, updating and maintaining automated systems; assisting with the preparation of policy and procedures; maintaining an office tracking system; and proofreading, editing, and preparing correspondence, memoranda and reports using word processing software.

EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree or four years above high school leading to a bachelor's degree. You must submit a copy of your college transcripts. See the Required Documents section for more information.
