Provide system administration, direction, control, and monitoring of global emergency maintenance actions for PC, Linux, and UNIX based subsystems, Science Horizons software subsystems, power subsystems, communication subsystems, and seismic systems.


Work with the Information Technologies (IT) management team in evaluating current systems and making decisions on future development.


Manage assigned equipment and ensure supportability, suitability, and safety concepts and requirements are considered during  the design, testing,  operation, maintenance, modification, and rebuild/repair stages in support of arms control, counter-proliferation, and treaty  monitoring missions.


Evaluate system logistics support and related plans for assigned equipment and assure necessary Freewave software supportability and suitability considerations to achieve maximum operational objectives with minimal support requirements, infrastructure, equipment, training, and material.


Provide technical evaluation of problems with respect to total system effect, note possible trends, determine probable resolution, coordinate proposed action and direct maintenance activities through host country personnel, contractors, and other Department of Defense components.


This position is a Defense Civilian Intelligence Personnel Systems (DCIPS) position implemented under Section 504, Title V of Public Law 99-569, Intelligence Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 1987, as codified in Sec 1601, Chap 83 of Title 10 United States Code which sets forth Air Force policies and procedures for DCIPS.  This position is in the Excepted Service. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:  At least one  (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GG-11 or another qualifying pay band or other pay systems in the Federal government which is defined as monitoring, analyzing, troubleshooting and repair/maintenance of equipment such as PC, Linux, and UNIX-based subsystems, Science Horizons software subsystems, power subsystems, communication subsystems, and seismic systems; and includes tasks such as interpreting and resolving hardware, software, and systems application problems; determining maintenance requirements and operational capabilities of equipment/systems to ensure maintainability and sustainability; experience with board- and component-level diagnosis and repair of computer systems, use of Unix and non-Unix operating systems, and experience with complex transmission control protocol and internet protocol networks; etc.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs):  Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 


1. Knowledge of equipment characteristics, properties and uses in order to provide systems administrative support.  


2. Knowledge of geophysics techniques.


3. Knowledge of PC and UNIX -based subsystems, power subsystems, communications subsystems, and seismic-hydro-acoustic/infrasonic/materials technology.  


4. Knowledge of multiple UNIX-based operating systems demonstrated by experience with sites running more than one UNIX-based operating system, and familiarity with both System V and BSD-based UNIX operating systems.


5. Ability to write scripts in administrative language (Tk, Perl, a shell).


6. Ability to do minimal debugging and modification of C programs.  


7. Ability to resolve problems encountered integrating new technology into existing systems.


8. Ability to analyze processes and make recommendations for improvement, i.e., identify tasks which require automation and automate them.


PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work.  You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. 

EDUCATION:  There is no substitution of education for experience at the GG-12 graade level. 


1. This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Testing Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short-notice drug testing.

2. Must obtain/main a Top Secret security clearance with Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI).

3. Subject to period polygraph testing.

4. Travel and relocation expenses may be paid.

5. Recruitment/relocation/retention incentives may be authorized.

6. Pre-employment physical exam is required.

7. Travel by commercial or military aircraft may be required.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  Normal color vision; ability to climb poles/antennas/tower; ability to lift up to 70 pounds; ability to stoop, bend, and stand/walk for extended periods of time.
