Specialized Experience: You must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level with responsibilities close to the work of this position that has given you the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of a GS-7 Research Health Science Specialist. Specialized experience may have been gained working in a position where you coordinated and managed project activities for a research department to include duties such as; interviewing patients on a one-to-one basis, coordinating multiple tasks and establishing priorities, abstracting clinical data from medical records, statistical methods and procedures to provide assistance in performing collection, processing, compilation, computation, analysis, editing and/or presentation of statistical data, etc. NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month/year starting & end dates AND hours worked per week. - OR -
Education: You must have at least one (1) year of graduate level education with a major study in an academic field related to health sciences or allied sciences. Combination: You must have a combination of directly related graduate education (above a bachelor's degree) and specialized experience. NOTE: If you select this option, you must submit a copy of your transcript with your application. Education cannot be credited without documentation. - OR -
Superior Academic Achievement (SAA): SAA at the baccalaureate level in the course work detailed above is fully qualifying. Applicants who wish to apply under this provision must submit proof from their educational institution that they meet one of the criteria listed below. To qualify for SAA, applicants must have completed all the requirements for a bachelor's degree in a curriculum that is qualifying for the position to be filled and meet one of the following: 1.) Rank in the upper one-third of your class in the college, university or major subdivision. 2.) A grade-point average of "B" (a GPA of 2.95 or higher out of a possible 4.0) for all completed undergraduate courses, or those completed in the last two years of undergraduate study. 3.) HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED:
Applicants will be ranked based on four quality groups, as follows:
- Best qualified - applicants possessing experience that substantially exceeds the minimum qualifications of the position including all selective factors, and who are highly proficient in all requirements of the job and can perform effectively in the position;
- Highly qualified - applicants possessing experience that exceeds the minimum qualifications of the position including all selective factors, and who are proficient in most of the requirements of the job;
- Well qualified - applicants possessing experience that meets the minimum qualifications of the position including all selective factors, and who are proficient in some, but not all, of the requirements of the job; and
- Qualified - applicants possessing experience and/or education that meets the minimum qualifications of the position including all selective factors.
After the vacancy announcement closes, reviewed applications are evaluated against the questionnaire responses and placed in the appropriate quality group. Qualified veterans will be afforded preference by being placed at the top of the appropriate quality group.
